View Full Version : 818 rally car
Here an idea for 818 is to turn it into a rally car.You could still use subaru rally suspention and with the hardtop it would be a badass little rally car with a h6

To be honest, I don't see the 818 as a rally car at all. Sure the Lancia Stratos was a great mid-engined, RWD rally car... in the 70's before the Audi Quattro which changed everything. The 818 loses AWD, and although some of the Subie suspension pieces are used, the design is optimized for on-road (autocross and road race) not off-road (rally).
A 2-door 2.5RS with WRX/STi swap would be my project rally car!

I'm considering a rally car 818 too. I would build it for SCCA rallycross in the rear 2wd modified class. I think it would be a hoot.

How would the fiberglass boddy parts hold up to that?
Especially at the mounting points I can imagine alot of spider cracking in the gelcoat.

Like what the Atom did?

Oh, it would wreak havoc on the fiberglass, and everything else. I would probably add extra bracing and support for the body panels, and maybe rubber bushings too, but it'll show some wear to say the least.

Time for FFR to show us those heat formed plastic panels.
I don't know if this is true but I heard the atom nomad can't be used for rallycross because they prohibit tube frame cars from competing. I assume if true the 818 also falls into this category.

You're right. It looks like they added a new rule for 2015 prohibiting tube frame vehicles (among other vehicles). Guess I'll have to keep bashing my Evo at the rallycross, and will run the 818 on street and track.

after seeing the damage done after a minor accident, not worth it. maybe for a SSS but that about it.
