I've drive 4 different 818's without power steering and didn't miss it with any of them.

I didn't miss it on my FFR Roadster, until I put it on ... low speed parking lot maneuver are where you really feel it.

I put power steering on all my roadsters as they need it, 818 does not

Did I read hear that FFR was going to try putting it on the Red car? Anybody recall seeing that?

Wayne, like you I also run a Lotus Elise on the track. How would you compare the 818R steering feel to the Lotus?

Yes they did, john George thought it would help him catch a slide quicker.

The car overall feels just like the Elise, steering, turn in, overall balance with more HP

I have power steering in my 818S. I built an FFR roadster with PS because quite a few roadster guys later added power steering to make parking or other slow speed steering easier. Building the 818 I knew that FFR, Wayne and other early builders said it wasn't needed but I added it because most everything was "free" from the donor. All I had to add were two long hoses from the rack back to the pump & reservoir. I have only driven around the 'hood as a go-kart and I know the PS works - turns easily at a stop - but I'm working on body now and haven't got plates yet and driven enough to get a feel of the steering at road speeds. For a street car, I don't see the down side. Also, I'm a gluten for complexities so I've also added ABS, cruise control and air conditioning . . . mostly to see if I can do it.

So did they try it yet, and if so what were the results?

I plan to keep power steering, but I'm a long way from completion. Like Pete, I plan to keep ABS and cruise control as well.
The steering is incredibly light w/out PS. I can't imagine having it, I think it would be overkill.

I'm with Wayne. I drove it on the track and it was no big deal without PS. I could catch the car fine in the corners.
