Kawasaki just announced the H2 (http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/2015-Ninja-h2). The powerplant makes 300HP and the engine/transmission combo probably weighs around 150lbs. It has built in flat foot shifting and a sequential transmission.

I think the street H2 for $25k only makes ~200hp. The R model at $50k makes the 300hp.

It seems the mantra of "How fast do you want to go? How much money do you have?" fits whether you're adding horsepower or adding lightness...

Sigh...still working on that whole "independently wealthy" thing...

I was glad to see it's a complete bike and not just a motor for that price. I'm with Santiago. Let me know if you figure out that whole "more money that I know what to do with" thing.

There are other bike engines that make 200 plus hp with some mods for under 5 grand

all of the current gen literbikes (starting with the 2008 CBR1000RR) make around 200hp with almost no effort... they all weigh around 400lbs or less too.
And they would all kinda suck in a 818.

If you want a superbike based motor, the hartley v8 is the way to go..

And HP isn't the only factor. You need torque as well. 1000cc's might give you as much as 120 lb/ft and that has to build over time. Still it would be fun once it's built up. You'd also kill any sort of motorcycle clutch too so building it to fit would be a task with some engineering work. I would love to couple this to an electric motor someday for the low end and let the motorcycle engine handle the high end. :)

My big bore Hayabusa made more power and had much better low end than a WRX. Lower torque numbers don't matter because the final drive gears down twice as much with a redline of 12k. It came with a 17 plate clutch that was pretty sturdy. Kawasaki's bigger bikes have really good clutches that can stand up to drag launches all day.
