Am still concerned about the fluid capacity of the 5 speed WRX transaxle. I have changed to an OBX limited slip diff. in my donor transaxle. The fluid overfills out of the tube at about 4 quarts. Could it be the lim. slip diff, being solid rather than open, displaces far less fluid, and therefore, the unit will overfill with much less fluid than spec?

Where is the transmission vent? Maybe it is taped over or clogged.

3.5 quarts, 1-1.5" pass the full mark on the dipstick. Cusco RS 1.5 way LSD with motul 300 LSD 75/80 tranny fluid

There technical is no vent, some call the fill port a vent. 3.5 and done.

I have added a total of 3.7 Qts. (as recomm. in manual). Level is way high. Hope it does not cause any problem like fluid foaming etc. I guess more is better than less.

I remember someone (was it Erik?) burnt up a tranny by trusting the dipstick; it was actually underfilled.

I did that, too. Lessons learned.

The motor and trans are at an angle. With 3.7L it will show above fill line. Mine is almost 2" above line.

I also had the trans fluid burp out of the fill tube several times while filling, makes a mess. What happens when the transmission temp rises during spirited driving? With the oil level below the dip stick tube,I would assume the oil will be burped out of the tube!
Has any body drilled the rear plate and installed a breather?
