View Full Version : Two disturbingly dangerous discoveries this morning

Let me preface this by saying this isn't a FFR 818 issue specifically since every car is unique. This problem is specific to MY car or one setup the same, but it needs attention regardless. Running the RPF1 wheels we have with the COBB sway bar we have a serious clearance issue. So basically don't.

The other issue is a bit more troubling because it appears to be a design/build flaw in the chassis. The RH LCA rubs and the LH doesn't. I'm guessing the OEM Subaru parts I'm using aren't the issue.....

So just pay attention on your builds guys!

Some of us have run into that issue with the aluminum LCA and the "nub".

I just ground my nub off with a flap disc. But I don't know how you'd be able to control the grinder with all that shiny metal blinding you. :)

Yeah, that control arm interference should be made into a sticky somewhere. I remember it coming up quite a while ago and filing it in my forum notes...ya'll do have a file for the forum tips you come across don't you? ;)

Well documented. I ran into it over a year ago.

Easy fixes that you should have no problem adjusting

Maybe on earlier chassis only, I don't have that LCA problem.

I think the problem is much more likely if you are using the "R" mounting holes. I don't remember seeing anyone with an S running into this.

If by adjust you mean leave the LCA on and let it do it's thing and remove sway bar then yes. :D

Correct, where they come up into the frame there just isn't room for the entire bushing area. I was more concerned that it was different left to right.

I know it's on the R position and the S does not have this concern. Both sides are concern or just one, holes gotta match on each side obviously, if they don't, they should.

Have you guys tried to remove the tab on the lower control arm? Also in addition maybe just grind away the powder on the inside and touch it up slightly. If this doesn't work, fill holes and drill another to give you slightly more clearance. In either case get some blue paint to match the frame to touch it up. This is a pain but doable, take two shots and call me in the morning. You got this, just bs I know

On the sway bar, how much clearance do you need, you might be able to modify the bar enough or add spacers to give to some clearance. From the pic looks like a ton.

I noticed after mocking up the front suspension that the alignment was different left to right. I don't really find it alarming as it is that way on almost every car I check. For whatever reason it must be difficult to perfectly square a car.

Here's what it will look like after a nice massage of the belt sander35158

The point is not that it can be fixed, but that both sides are not the same.
