Hey All,

Looking at purchasing a 2003 WRX and the owner says it does not currently run and so I was wondering if there was a source out there that I could purchase a rebuild manual.
So I can try to rebuild the engine my self. Also you engine people out there could you possible estimate how much a rebuild would cost if I have a shop rebuild it for me.

Also I know this is going to be a open question and will depend on the person If I do rebuild the engine my self what upgrades should I do if I do rebuild it myself.

Thanks.

You can download the 02-03 service manuals from there. Thats what Ive been using to rebuild a EJ205.

I recommend three tools to help you along the way
COMPANY 23 EXHAUST SPROCKET tool
company 23 cam lock tool
COMPANY 23-VALVE SPRING COMPRESSOR
the cam lock tool may not be required but makes life easier
the other two are must haves in my book

I just rebuilt mine. All done now and ready to install in the frame.... when I get it ready.
Thanks to the link from Ken-gilbert manuals I had something to consult.
Check out the simplifying the EJ20 thread by longislandwrx. lots of good info there.
I didn't do anything wild, I just wanted to refresh after 100K miles.
Mine was in good condition so I just did main and conn rod bearings, rings. Subaru rings, ACL bearings. Subaru gasket set. I bought the subaru stuff from Sommerset Subaru - they had the best Subaru prices.
The important thing on these engines is to make sure the heads and block are flat within tolerance.
I brought mine to a race engine shop and had them plane the surfaces clean the block and set the valves for me..
They recommended new exhaust valves which are pretty cheap, so I also went with that.
You can checkout my thread (Harley818) to see what I have done so far. I figured out how to do pictures better, so I will be posting more pictures in the next week.
Any questions.... ask away - this forum is great for support and sharing of ideas.
