View Full Version : Tomei style unequal length header

Found out today that the Tomei style unequal length header is not a good fit for the 818. Just putting this out there so no one makes this mistake.

The issues are that the header hangs a 1.5" - 2" below the frame and the front O2 will come in contact with the frame with engine movement. Also the header tube hits the frame motor mount on the drivers side.

I could have told you that. You sold me that for my 818 a long time ago.

We need a list of headers that do not hang that low.

Borla fits well and has one "spot" about 3/8" lower than the frame. Be sure to open Borla 3.jpg for the best photo.

Thanks for the notice; I have Tomei equal length headers for twin scrolls applications. Am hopeful it will work OK. To be honest, I haven't noticed the location of the O2 bung; in fact, I may not have one. Will have to look. No problem to weld one in, except that the headers are already ceramic-coated.

If you have Twin-Scroll Headers, the O2 bung will actually be in the Down-Pipe bell-mouth, not the headers.

Also, make sure that you have the Twin-Scroll bracket for the turbo. It is totally different, and definitely required. We just ran into this on our WRX Race Car FWIW.

Where did you get the bracket?

We stock it actually. Here it is on our web-site:

Once we realized how different and critical this piece is, we added it to our inventory. hope you like the twin-scroll!

Hmmm... Now that I see a picture of it, I think I may already have it in my garage (if I can locate it).

The VF37 on an EJ25 is pretty sweet. 341/389 to the wheels at ~ 20 psi. Hits hard and quick!

Thanks: that's what I thought; I'll contact you about the bracket.

Order for that & a Cosworth fuel rail placed!

I don't suppose you guys have any experience with the Tomei twin scroll headers on an 818 (fitment as referenced earlier in the thread?)

Thanks

Bill

We have your order, and thank you for your business!

As far as the Tomei headers on an 818, I do not. We used the Kinugawa TS headers, and they look to be the same design basically. All twin-scroll headers will use 2 sets of tubing as you have to keep the exhaust pulses separate all the way to the turbo, and all that I have seen stack the tubes on top of each other. I'll see what I have lying around and see if I can get any useful measurements.

I would definitely say this would be worth mocking up early in the build to see if you will have any issues, etc.

One other note is that you will have to pull the front O2 wiring out of the loom and move it up to reach the bell mouth. You should have enough length, but I would say if you have not welded the bung on yet, putting it on the top or passenger side will make it easier to reach the loom. Again, I'd say this is something you would want to mock up early in your build to make sure everything fits well.
