This past weekend I drove my first long road trip in my GTM. 1069 miles round trip from my house to the FFR Open House. Half of it in torrential driving rain. I'm happy to say the GTM weathered it all just fine. No issues of any sort (except for a slightly soggy driver's floorpan - even though I seam sealed everything - or so I thought). I will say, though, that after 7.5 straight hours in the car, even with earplugs, when I got home my ears still rang. 25.7 mpg overall. And only about a dozen idiot drivers that felt the need to prove something to me with their cars.
Big thanks to Fuzzy for hosting a dinner with a bunch of GTM and 818 guys. And an even bigger thanks to him for letting me wash my car in his garage to make it ready for the show on Saturday.
The open house was a good time - 5 GTM's, a bunch of roadsters, not even one 818, and 4 hot rods - one of which was absolutely spectacular and won best in show. It was good to meet/see all the guys building a GTM (Hal, Scott, Steve), and guys that have already built them (Jim, Hugo, Joe, Joe, Gary). Here's a few pics I took.

That's a great road trip Michael.
26 mpg and no freshly built car related bugs is very impressive.
You must have been in the running for the longest drive to factory five for a car in the show.

It was great meeting you, and your car is very nicely done. I will be picking your brain for weatherstrip sources and part numbers.

Thought I'd help you out, don't want to get you in trouble here
Yes it was a very good time indeed
BTW can anyone guess the forum members that were fondling the GTM next to the award winner, especially the nefarious looking dude in the black T-shirt ?

Michael,
Your car looks amazing and is a true testament of how reliable a GTM can be. It was a pleasure seeing you and the other members I had already met. It was also a pleasure to meet for the first time other members of the forum and be able to put faces to the names.

I would give my wife a free pass with that beautiful speciman of a man in the black shirt, maybe he was looking for a place to put his "best interior" trophy in a car with zero storage.
The right car was chosen for best GTM, stand out above all others. Though I would say Hugo's would give Mike's a run for it's money.
