Say I get a high mileage, but otherwise well running 2.5 WRX donor car and want to rebuild it. Aside from machine shop labor, anyone know what parts would cost to do a basic rebuild with possibly an upgrade to forged pistons? Basically pistons, rings, crank and rod bearings, full gasket set, oil pump, and maybe some cylinder head components like new lifters?

Thanks in advance!

Just as a ball-park, we have a rotating assembly that includes crank, rods, and forged pistons. There are a lot of different options actually. They start at $1306.03.

I would also recommend a master gasket kit as it has most all gaskets that you will need. If you are starting with a 2.5 liter engine, then that makes things simpler to be sure. Those start at about $251.00

If you use 2.0 heads, then you are talking about a hybrid swap, and that is a little different.

As far as the rest of it, assuming that your heads are in good shape, you would likely be looking at something like $500 to have your heads cleaned and decked. Also, remember to budget shims for your valves as well. There are 16 of them, and they are about $22.00 each and you need to check them. You may also want to check with the machine shop that you are using to see if they are able to "tip" the top of the valves to adjust valve clearance. That may save you a little over the cost of new buckets.

I hope that helps, and good luck with your build!
