I had some time to work on the 818 since my challenge car engine is torn down waiting heads. So went to replace the timing belt on my EJ207 V7 and can't get the darn bolt loose, I have a1/2" impact attached to a IR 5HP and a HF heavy duty impact wrench ad still no go, has anyone tried the tools they may make like ?http://www.rallysportdirect.com/GrimmSpeed-GS-OEM-Subaru-Crank-Pulley-Removal-Installation-Tool with any luck ?

I can't help, except to say I'm doing the same work next weekend so I bought that tool just now. I hope there's one left for you!

Block the flywheel and use a long breaker bar.... Done.

I stick an adjustable wrench handle with a hole at the end in between the block and flywheel. The hole catches the flywheel teeth and locks in as it tries to turn. Breaker bar with a jack handle on it for the bolt itself.

So engine is on stand w/o the flywheel so not sure if have room to put flywheel on now or not will check, if not I guess I will try this tool or similar tool, just not sure why this bolt is so tight and it is holding up progress !

That bolt is typically really tight. When it's in the car people put it in 5th gear or have someone stand on the brakes. A flywheel fits on the motor on the stand but the clutch will not fit when it's on the stand.

I always use an impact gun when motors outside of car with success or I do what mechie stated if I don't have my impact. Yea flywheel will fit but clutch won't unless you have a larger stand with long adapters. These motors sit on tires very nicely!!

I used a breaker bar on mine to get it loose after my impact couldn't touch it. I forget how I stopped the engine from turning, but remember needing to do that. Don't be shy replacing the idler pulleys too, I think most kits come with those now. 2 out of 3 of mine were shot (an '07 with only 43,000 miles). Good luck.

You don't need the flywheel. Just install two bolts on opposite sides and place a bar between them.

It may not be the right way but I have had this problem on Subaru and Honda cars. The bolt head is flanged and the flange sticks to the pulley. If you heat it with oxy acetylene or map gas, it will loosen right up with an impact. You don't have to heat it enough to dic color just enough for the flange on the bolt to release.

I have used heat before on a few, and pb blaster etc.
