View Full Version : Rear brake line routing- Center tunnel

I'm thinking of running the rear hard brake lines down the center tunnel. Has anyone done it already? By going through the tunnel, it will keep the lines away from the coolant lines (heat). It could also eliminate some weird bends. I may need to shield from headers. My fuel cell is going in the passenger seat, so it would be a straight shot down the middle to the back. Thoughts?

My electric 818 is run down the middle. I'm going to run the brake lines down the middle on my gas car also (tank in front).
Only issue I see for most, is getting around or over the gas tank.
I'm installing the ABS unit on both cars. Wiring it up is a "wait and see" priority.

Yep we did it this way also.
down the middle then TEE left and right.
Like Bob no tank behind the seat at all so we can push the seat back another 6 inches.

Thanks guys. Great minds think alike. And of you have pictures by chance? I'm going to try to nail out the fronts first today- then rears maybe tomorrow.

The only picture I have of this is where I mounted the abs. Inside the cockpit on top of the center tunnel. As far forward as possible.

I suppose rear of the tunnel you could run the rear brake lines to the outside of the gas tank tray at the firewall and continue normal routing from there along the outside edge of the gas tank.

I was going to run down the center and then when I hit the gas tank area was to tee the line and go to each side of the tank and then to each wheel

Same thoughts here.
Will it work?

I think the question is, "why wouldn't it work?" :) Brake lines don't care where they go and with a bare chasis and sheet metal that can be drilled to open passageways, you should be able to route them wherever you want. Maybe I'm missing the question.

I mocked the tunnel- It will be perfect. Glad I thought about this route, and you guys pushed me off the fence.

I assume you are running the clutch also down the center, along with fire ?

I went down the side with the clutch since I bought Mike's SS braided clutch line kit. Makes it easy to remove the clutch slave and move it out of the way. You wont have disconnect the hardline, then have to bleed the clutch when you pull a motor or trans.

I was going down the middle with the clutch hardline (same path as the brake line and wire harness) and then in the area where the fuel cell is going to couple to a SS braided line so you don't have disconnect the hardline, then have to bleed the clutch when you pull a motor or trans
