Alright.. I've called nearly every transmission and differential shop in Tucson and all but two of them said "we don't do Subaru transaxles" for one reason or another. The two which are candidates claim they have done them before, but said "I'll need to look at it" before saying if they could install the differential or not.
Is it that difficult that nobody wants to do it, or is it that nobody knows what is involved? I'm a bit surprised that no shop in town seems to have experience even working on the transmission. 1 million people and nobody needs Subaru service I guess.
What are my options? Look in Phoenix for somebody.. am I calling the wrong places? Do it myself? Up for ideas here.

I had a AAmco shop near me install my LSD. No problems. They are use to seeing Subura transmissions because of knuckle heads breaking them :). Buy a complete gasket kit before you go. If you have female stub trans now, it will be male afterwards, so you will need the new outside seals for the male stubs. I think they charged me $400- and they knew about backlash etc. They checked everything over inside during the install, and everything was good.

If you're coming up to Phoenix, I'll recommend my buddies over at Snail Performance / RA Worx. Let me know if you want their contact info.

Sure thing. I'd rather have somebody work on it that has experience with it. PM me over the info or post here.

Does any one know the part numbers for the bearings on the LSD

I had mine installed by the local Subaru dealer. Since it was out of the car they charged me 2 hrs labor plus parts. They replaced the carrier bearings but everything else was in great shape (70K miles) Those bearings were about $100 ea.
Everyone should have access to a dealer...

I got a Timken bearings for mine from RockAuto for $18.49 each. Timken part 30208M. It says it only fits up to 2002, but they have National bearings for about the same price that are listed for newer transmissions. Interestingly, the National is listed as fitting all years of phase II transmissions, but the Timken isn't and they both have the same dimensions. I suspect Timkens fitment information is simply out of date.

I'm sure that they fit, hard to ask the dealer to use non-oem parts!

You can get a KOYO 30208 at a bearing supply company for a bit more than $20. That is the OEM part, but most dealerships will still give you a hard time. That's a good reason to get it done by an independent shop - they'll recommend OEM when it makes sense and aftermarket when appropriate.
