Here is my process of blocking the top crankcase breather to use the N/A 2.5 forester coolant manifold. I did this mod as I needed the 45* bend toward the outside of the car for the use on my FXT (which is my donor). This might be a benefit as another member said that space is tight in this area but have yet to try it since I don't have an 818, yet. Anyway, this is not needed if you can find a fxt coolant manifold (or follow ffrs instructions), I have tried for over a week and came up empty handed, the n/a ones are everywhere. Hers how I did it.

take out breather with vice grips, get a good hold and spin it back and forth until it pops out.

I sent off an old one to napa to get measured but is says 5/8"

Set in place with some red lock-tight.

Hit in with a brass punch (could just use a hammer)

coolant pipe installed, showing the reason for the plug.

the pink one is a fxt one and the silver one is from the N/A forester.

and lastly here is the top coolant hose location that would not allow the use of a wrx one. Notice how it is not facing straight toward the front of the car like a wrx/sti.

Again, this is not needed, just a guide if someone wants to try.

That is the most rainbowtastic motor yet!

is that the main crankcase vent? are you concerned about blocking it? are you going to vent your oil cap or something similar?

You should have seen it before... "friend" that built the motor that it would be funny. The timing belt covers are the only remaining bling, the rest is aluminium and grey, minus the a/n fittings. Its old nickname was Skittles, its graduated to Forester Gump; hopefully it just keeps running.

Im not concerned about blocking it, even with that one plugged, the oil separator set up that I use outflows the stock one using just the pvc nipple and the head nipples. In a stock set up the center crankcase goes to the heads then the heads to the intake (I think), then the pcv nipple goes to the plenum. The motor has a small internal baffle under the pcv nipple that is supposed to keep oil in there, so I think that the pcv breather would be better for venting (to atmosphere) than the center.
