Hey there everyone,

I wanted to find out how many people are going to be using the stock brake setup with their builds?

I am looking into some upgrades with regard to rotors and wanted to get a feel of how many might be interested in this kind of setup?

Thanks,

Erik Johnson

Stock for me! 2006 WRX donor, I got the bigger brakes which I'm sure will be sufficient for a mostly street car. I did turn the rotors and put some StopTech pads on. I'm good for now, but would consider a rotor upgrade down the line.

I'm planning on using the stock setup. I have a 2007 WRX donor and building a primarily street car.

I'm using the stock 06 WRX brakes with new discs, rebuilt calipers, new pads & lines. Street car.

Hi Erik
I'm using the 06 impreza and 04 forester XT brakes, rotors, and pads & lines. Everything off donor until I test to see what needs to be upgraded.

I'm also using the 2006 wrx stock brakes, too easy to upgrade later, if/when I need to

I am using the stock brakes off my 2003 donor. It came with aftermarket EBC slotted front rotors. I plan to buy new pads but have not yet selected them, and I bought the braided SS lines from you. I am not looking to buy any other brake upgrades until I have a chance to drive the car and see if I have a need.

I have a 2007 donor with the bigger 4 & 2 pot brake setup. I'm going stock ABS with upgraded Hawk street pads. Some reviews mentioned high brake pedal effort, since I was buying pads anyway, went with something grippy to compensate a little.

My current plan is stock depowered '02 WRX brakes. I am planning to delete the ABS. I will use new upgraded pads. I haven't really looked closely at the donor rotors but I am guessing I will replace them with something close to stock.

I'm interested in peoples impressions of the Hawk street pads. Are they truly grippier than stock? Perhaps not an equivalent comparison, but I found that the "best" autozone brand pads required more pedal effort than the cheaper ones. Though they did last longer, I preferred the cheap ones (this was in a minivan).

Mrprgrmr, I'm not sure and haven't used a set myself yet, just went off opinions and reviews here and elsewhere. It was just a semi-educated guess to reduce pedal effort. Might do the opposite as your autozone experience caused, lol. They'll handle heat better, so it won't be a waste of money if I do any HPDE. Ask me again in a few months! :)

I went down the stock brake route for my challenge car (as we were required to do that), they were way under performing and always a pain to mix and match parts, then 2 years ago we were allowed to upgrade to the Cobra brakes, what a difference, so to start I have gone with the 4 piston Wilwoods with slotted rotors (seen to many drilled rotors crack) and will be using Carbotech XP10 pads all the way around.

I am using mostly stock '02 WRX components: have rebuilt the calipers, new braided lines and rotors, Hawk HP plus pads.

I have Hawk HPS pads on my Z right now. Not sure if I would not buy them again. They are not noticeably grippier than the OEM Nissan pads, and are definitely not track capable in that application (I can smoke em with a couple hard stops on the street). They might do better on an lighter 818, but I'm giving the StopTech pads a try on the 818.

I think I'm using 07 wrx, but they might be sti not sure. I don't think it needs upgraded brakes because the stock brakes are made for a 3000+ Pound car. But we will see when my kits done. ;)

I plan to use the stock 2004 WRX pads and rotors that came on the donor, with new stainless lines I buy from you, no ABS. The old rubber lines that came on the donor are just worn out but the rotors and pads are still good for a few more miles.

4 pots/1 pot setup. And for some reason, I can't get the rears to lock up at all! I've tried messing with the proportioning valve but nothing. New stoptech pads and all! Any ideas? I checked the piston throw and it seems to be working fine on the rear. The pedal is very firm and I've bled all four corners and there's no air in the line. Reminds me of the Hot Rod issue of going from a boosted brake setup to a non-boosted system.

Pretty much same here, but my rear lock slightly. But my rears are different if that matters

I used the stock 2002 WRX brakes with better rotors and pads. I had done a e- stop from 120 and it slows down quick. I have the bias set at a little more front and really like how it pivots the car under trail braking into a corner. Lots of fun. I need to get a roll bar clamp for my go-pro so I can get an action video from inside the car.

Stock 4/2 pots with Stoptech/Centric Posi-quiet pads and Centric Premium rotors for the street. Hawk Blue pads and Centric Premium blanks for the track.

Where's your bias screwed into? I remember Jim Schenck saying he wouldn't recommend a boosted setup because it would be too touchy. Right now, I would consider it! I've got really get on it and I can't lock them up no matter what.

It might be worth checking the rear calipers aren't seized, if locking them up shouldn't be hard. FFR ought to have some guidance on the rear brake lock ability.

Erik,
Did you get your brakes sorted out yet?

Erik,

What about your regen? You should hardly need any brakes on the back of that thing. Do you have the regen set up yet? If so, are you using a hydraulic pressure transducer to drive it?
