So weight on my shipping was 650 lbs for engine and transmission, seems a little heavy as my challenge car engine and transmission are just a little over 550lbs, are Subaru's that much of a pig?

That must be a helluva shipping crate, because the engine+transmission aren't anywhere near that heavy. I can't recall exactly, but I'm thinking 380ish??

Ouch - some crate indeed! I think I read somewhere that the engine alone (w/o turbo I believe) was in the neighborhood of 260-280 lbs. Add 100 lbs of trans and you're close to Xusia's estimate.

Time to break out a scale! I've got good 400 lbs ones here, but it'll be some time before my engine comes in. I'd like to see someone weigh what they've got.

odd as engine and trans are just on a standard wooden pallet (40” x 48") and maybe the pallet weighs 20lbs, and the pallet is just wrapped in plastic wrap. I doubt that the company would inflate the weight as they would then have to pay for that weight, this is just odd that the ship weight is 650 lbs.

Assembled short block is about 95 lbs (I've picked one up before)
Assembled heads are about 50-60 lbs each (have a set in my basement)
Trans is about 90-100 lbs (also picked one up before)
Stock exhaust manifold and up pipe is also kinda heavy (maybe 40 lbs)
The rest is probably the intake manifold, intercooler, hoses, clutch, turbo and wiring
That 650 lbs is definitely in inflated

Could you have been hit for a "standard weight" on an engine/transmission rather than someone actually weighing?

That "standard weight" thing is a distinct possibility but you should rule out clerical error as the culprit. Unfortunately, the computer age has not "human proofed" the systems we use for shipping and such. Who knows you may end up with a nice rebate! Good luck, WEK.

someone probably just eyeballed it.

So the weight in transport is with the skid and dimensional weight so as suspected not the real weight, the real weight was 410 lbs (full dress engine and full 5 sp) so I imagine that the final weight should be about 370 (minus AC, PS, and tail shaft on transmission)

FWIW when I ship out OEM Shortblocks in the factory box it is 110lbs.

Heavy are the new CVT Transmission. Good lord they are a pig!
