Hey, does anybody know if the ABS must be mounted level? This is how it's mounted in the WRX, but if it's OK to mount vertically it would fit a lot better in the 818, and open up more options.

Related question... In my 818 I'm putting the gas tank in the front (basically where the battery tray is). I was thinking of making the gas tank with a mount for the ABS module. My thought was twofold: 1)That the gas tank is decoupled a bit from the frame; and 2)That the gas would be a natural vibration absorber. The goal is to reduce/eliminate the sound and sensation from the ABS module.

Thoughts?

You may have difficulty bleeding the ABS if not mounted normally.

Good thought, Bob. I used the OE ABS mount with the rubber bushings to isolate the sound/vibrations, but I had to cut & bend it a bit to mount to the firewall. I think if it worked in the much quieter WRX, it should work in the 818.

Pete, did you mount it level or vertical? If you mounted it vertically and bled the system already, how did that go?

Level. See a photo in the ABS Plumbing thread . . . . but don't panic over the complexity.

That sounds like a good plan, but Bob had a good point in mounting it level. I put mine between the battery tray and the firewall at the V of the frame. Though probably not a good spot for you with your gas tank up front. Further noise isolation will only help, especially once a top is on.

I'll have pics of my brake setup soon once the plumbing is in.
