Brake master cylinder mounting question.

So im about to mount my master cylinder but the way it says to do it in the manual looks like it would be slightly crooked. Is this normal?

I had wondered about that too, but everything was solidly mounted, so dismissed it. I feel better about it with this discussion.

That's too funny. I was going to post this exact question this morning!

Moving on to the next logical question then: It's mounted straight in the WRX, so any reason why NOT to mount it straight in the 818? I know about the bolt/nut that doesn't fit very well because of interference, so I was thinking about making a mounting plate for the brake master cylinder that would contain captured nuts. So you mount the plate on the firewall, then mount the brake master master cylinder on the plate. All the mounting hardware for the brake master would be forward of the firewall. No need to drill into the pedal box, AND you can use the fourth mounting hole on the pedal box. The only issue I can see is that this would place the master cylinder about 10mm further away from the brake pedal, so the FFR supplied push rod might not be long enough. I would think this is easily dealt with.

Xusia. I am working on that very part for future builds. I will be making a roundish plate with two studs facing in and 2 facing out. 90 degrees apart. This will allow you to unbolt the master cylinder from inside or out. and no pedal box interference. Look for it on my web site soon.

I suspect the lean in the master cylinder was to make clearance for the reservoir when using the power booster. see attached.

How soon? I was planning on fabbing my own this coming weekend! It probably won't look as nice, but I'm thinking some pretty blue paint will help it look better! Haha

From what I can tell on my WRX, it was mounted straight - that is, no tilt left or right.

Hi I m trying to install the brake master cylinder. The build manual says to put in a power booster cover plate on pg 143. I can't find any part number for it and can't find the actual part. The hole in the alum firewall is about 2.5 in and the back of the master cylinder where it bolts in has a circle of about 1.5 in. Seems kind of sloppy to put it in like that. Am I missing a part or is that how it goes?

It's a small funny shaped aluminum plate. It's in the bag of miscellaneous aluminum pieces that is in your big box of aluminum. It's pretty easy to miss. I misplaced mine at one point and it took me 3 hours to find where I put it.

Yes I did find it in box 6 with all the alum parts. It was in a bag with the smaller stuff. Thanks. My son came up with the idea of trimming part of the head off a bolt to attach the master cylinder to the pedal box. If you don't do that it's very awkward to get the nut and bolt tightened. Thanks for the help.
