And that would be great in an 1800 pound car. I know I am a diesel freak, but. Would it be any harder than the standard engine? I think it would bolt right up. Exhaust would probably be work. How many mpg do you get in a 818 with a diesel engine -- 50-60? It would still be wicked fast with a torque rating of 258.

If you want it to work, it will. Probably not that hard. Off the top of my head these are a few things to check in to. First check the overall height. There are cross members that sit closely above the 2.5 turbo gas engine I have in mine. If it is much taller, you may have to relocate or restructure those bars to maintain clearance. Most Subarus have low hoods, so it ought to be okay. If the high stuff is easily relocated stuff? No worries. I doubt it is any longer than gas. You only have an inch extra before you'll have to start moving the mounts back to maintain clearance to the firewall to have room to service it.

The next issue I can think of is ECM. Without a diesel donor, and its wire harness, you'll need an aftermarket ECU. This may frustrate use of ABS if you want it. Look for aftermarket ECUs if they are available. Other guys can fill in my knowledge gap there.

With diesel's torque, look for a later model transmission. 02-05 gearboxes likely will not like this guy's torque numbers. STI gearboxes are being figured out. It would be favored for durability I would think.

If they were more prevalent in the US, I would have seriously thought about one if these.

I think it would be awesome, it will bolt up to an ej transmission. I think the problem would probably be the stock turbo and exhaust filter location, would be easy enough to overcome.

While at Pikes Peak this past summer, I took a picture of the Subaru race car with a diesel engine.
