I didn't have my brother's recommended tool for installing the crank and cam shaft oil seals (a really big socket), so I spent most of the day on Friday designing and printing a nice little oil seal installation tool on my little 3D printer. The design ended up being basically a tube, but the perfect diameter and with a flange to avoid the temptation of pounding in the seal too far. I had never installed these seals before but it looked like something that would be easy to do. As I got to the end of the 3 hour printing process, I noticed that it looked awfully similar to the diameter of 2" PVC pipe, so I fashioned a similar "tool" out of PVC pipe I had in the garage.

I had visions of sharing my plans for the 3D printed tool on the forum and saving somebody lots of time and trouble. The only problem is I tried both tools and the PVC pipe worked better. For the cam shafts, an old oil seal flipped over fits right on the end of the PVC pipe. So, if you need to install oil seals and don't have the official "really big socket", a chunk of PVC is just right.
