I have noticed that some guys have complained that the selector shaft sits precariously close to the rear of the 818 body. Someone (don't know who) said that the selector shaft could be re-drilled and shortened to give more clearance. Now since my tranny is still disassembled, I am thinking it would be much easier to accomplish the mod. in a drill press before re-assembly. Can anyone give info as to how far in to drill the new hole?

Dan (RM1Sep) made the suggestion to redrill. It wasn't as simple as just redrill.

In my build thread, I showed a CNC'd version of a select lever I was testing out as a direct replacement. Since a direct replacement isn't possible (the cable mounting bracket needs to be changed too) I decided to just redesign the whole thing. Dan said if you're going to redesign the whole thing, design the bracket to sit further back and just drill a new hole to get even more clearance.

I don't have the new setup designed so can't tell you where the hole in my design will end up or even if my design will be cost effective enough to have machiend by a third party shop.

What Craig said... everything is connected and almost anything is possible. I'm just going to shorten the stock one 1/2 inch or so for clearance.

I'm working on a mod that should be easy using the K tuned shifter, possible with FFR's setup. It gains about 1-1/2" Rather than repost the book here, read my build thread, starting at post 71 for a better explanation. It's a work in progress, but here's the first rough pics:
