So, what has everyone used? I see that Wayne used Redline CV-2. Would this be appropriate for the inner joint as well as the outer? I ask because Subaru calls out different P/N's for the inner and out joints. The outer joint (large ball bearings) are filled with typical thick grease. However when I opened up the inner joints (with the tri-lobes) I had a nasty surprise from the 'grease' (more like gear oil) running out.

This was the first time I've ever opened an axle, so forgive my ignorance. I have my axles ready to seal up and would like to know what a good aftermarket lube is for the inners. Do they require something less viscous?

Thanks,

Lee

Use the redline, they make top grade stuff

I had to buy rebuilt front axles due to my Quaife install, I re-used that grease

I bought a boot kit that came with grease, I just reused that.

Thanks for the quick replys... I was planning to use Redline, just wanted to make sure the tripod bearing in the inner joints don't require something thinner for proper lube.

I have done what I would call "over-lubing" an outer. Grease would come out until it finally reached it's equilibrium or content it was happy with when hot from track use. I wonder if there is a spec or procedure that any of you know of that helps with using the right amount?
Another question I have is what kind of bands to use. Oetiker or more basic that doesn't require a tool? This is perhaps assuming that you re-use the boot. For me, I was told to inspect my joints and replace the grease with Redline on my race STi.
