Most will be in the 250-325hp range, so what is everyone using? Spec, Exedy, CM, etc. OEM flywheel, aftermarket, lightweight, etc. And if you want to be very helpful, what did you pay?

Thanks, Adam

I'm using an Exedy FF02 Chromoly Flywheel (12.8 lbs) coupled with an Exedy 15801 Organic Stage 1 Clutch. I'm running a moderately tweaked NA engine which will be generating between 200 and 210 horsepower at the flywheel. You would probably want to run a heavier clutch than mine(and a push design rather than a pull), but the flywheel would be fine. I paid $377 for the flywheel and $320 for the clutch.

Thanks Silver, I've noticed the Exedy's mentioned a number of times here, must be reputable.

IF my clutch need changing, it will be an Exidy and my flywheel will be a lighter one, but not sure of the brand (my local tuner recommended it - I didn't pick it - and I don't recall the brand). Clutch would be $230 (again, if I need it). Not sure on the flywheel.

im running a stock flywheel and excedy oem replacement, i usually hate excedy, but i bought the flywheel with 10k miles, and the clutch kit brand new for $300 total. im curious to see how well the stock replacement will hold up being such a light car with little drive train loss compared to a normal wrx. i am also curious to see how a light weight flywheel works in the 818, ive had em in my previous wrx's and i hated driving it so much i sold my car. i want to drive my 818 on the street as well as track, im probably going to refrain from buying a lightweight flywheel.

There are any number of good flywheel makers, and I'm not necessarily suggesting that Exedy is the best. I don't know that. But it is a good one. Exedy is one of the larger Japanese makers -- most (if not all) Subaru OEM flywheels and clutches are Exedy, if my memory serves correctly. My logic was that if their stock stuff is good enough for the vehicle manufacturer, it stands to reason that their trick stuff is probably good too. And the one I chose is light at 13 lbs, but not so light that it is likely to make the car hard to drive, and is not likely to cause the ECU to throw CEL's.

Canadian 818, I notice that you are from Edmonton. Are you familiar with Tom Penner of Techworks Engineering from Calgary? They are an excellent source for Subaru performance modifications, particularly exhaust systems, cams, and cylinder head machine work. I have a set of their cams and custom Equal Length headers. A little spendy, but really, really, good stuff. And they are an FFR sponsoring vendor. Just thought you might like to know. :)

My plan is for ~400 hp in an 818r. ACT Pro Lite Flywheel and an Exedy OEM replacement clutch.

Stock, stock, stock. If it's enough for a 250(crank)hp AWD car it's MORE than enough for the 818.

The WRX I race used to make 260/260, we turned that down to 220/260 this past season and I run a stock OEM disc and cover with an ACT Street Light flywheel with no issues and I am NOT nice to my car. It gets launched at 5500 multiple times an event with huge sticky tires and it's been dandy. Last season I had a full ride from Comp Clutch and murdered 4 clutches in 3 months, they just weren't engaging correctly and burning up after a few thousand miles. I ran an ACT in the middle there and it cost me a transmission. Remember, your clutch is the fuse between your engine and the ground, replace that with a bigger fuse and all you're doing is moving the failure point. Hopefully it's the tires, but more often than not it's the glass geared 5MT that gives up first.

I'm aiming for ~350rwhp in my my 818S. I'll be using an ACT Street Lite (~14lbs) flywheel and Clutch Masters FX300 combination. I picked up both for a grand total of $550.

Thanks SixStar. This is exactly what my logic is telling me - nice to see that others with a whole lot more experience than myself can confirm this. This is also the same approach that I'm taking to the brakes and plan on using standard WRX - as the huge diet that the subaru has been through becoming an 818 surely will also allow the similar logic to apply to braking?
