View Full Version : Would this combination work? NA donor, JDM EZ30D, Wayne's ECU

Thinking out loud again...
NA Impreza donor... sell motor, keep 5 speed.
JDM EZ30D. Seem to be available on ebay with around 40-50k miles.
Electromotive ECU/Harness from Wayne.
Anyone have any thoughts?
I am just assuming Wayne's ECU will work with the JDM engine. A NA donor should be quite a bit more affordable than a WRX donor, leaving some extra cash for the engine and ecu. The JDM EZ30D's are going for anywhere between 800 and 1800 on ebay and I believe Wayne's electrical setup runs for 2450.

You can do that, the parts will be all there.

This a very attractive option, being that many of the wrx's are driven hard and most of the donors I've seen have well over a 100k mi. on them.

That's my plan!

Thanks Wayne. Canadian, are you planning on going with the second gen ez30D (EZ30R) or first gen EZ30D? It seems the second gen has some variable systems which may require additional electrical control.

I don't have one yet. I'd prefer to get the later model, the "R" if you will, but I won't pay a fortune for it.

The TEC-gt can take care of the EZ30R, EZ30D or EZ36.
Does the tec-gt and tec-s have the same anti lag as the older tec2, not that I would use it but some may. Still up in the air about going with a sti aem(with factory harness) or an electomotive set up from you since I don't want dbw. Considering the price difference I will probably go the tec-s route. I know your a bussy man but I would like a more in depth look at your set up so we can see what makes yours harness easier to install. Also since I would like to put my motor set up in my forester first (year wait), do you use the factory engine harness so I don't have to tune it twice? In other words is it easily swappable?

That's my thought also but no turbo. Some where in here they talked about getting everything on a pallet, engine, trams and other parts so you dont have to get a donor. That the way I would like to go. Maybe Wayne knows more about that. Also if I'm thing of using traction control too, not that it needs it, its just my driving ;-) Thanks
