I have to jump around a bit on my build due to B/O parts. Also I never found the 5/16" button head bolts listed for the pedal assmbly or master cyl. I had some of my own. I could not find them on the packing list either. Also the holes for the pedals that are verticle inside the interior did not line up at all. I was able to redrill. I am not really complaining just wondering if anyone else had the same issues.
Wallace, I had similar issues as you. I ended up just using the 5/16 hex bolts that were included. I had an issue with the top holes on the pedal mount as well, but then realized I was still trying to use the 5/16 bolts. It actually uses a smaller bolt and with some effort I was able to get it to work without modification.

go through the 5-6 build threads, quite a few issues and solutions are identified
F5 have been informed of that bolt mixup... should be fixed in future manual updates or BOM changed
we all used the hex heads
when you bolt up the master cyl you need longer bolts, from the inside, grind the side of the hex off to clear the assy. I used 1/4 -20 socket head cap screws with washers ground to clear the pedal assy

Your experience is typical, though not that big a deal for any component vehicle build.

Yup, jumping all over the place... hit a wall, work on another area, repeat as required!

Anyone mount up a 2002 WRX rear sway bar to the front yet? My bracket holes don't line up and the links are way too long. I will cut the links to fit when I have it down on the wheels. Just wondering which holes to start with. I'll try the bottom ones and redrill for the top. I thought maybe someone had hit this snag?

the one bracket that I have from my 05 donor doesn't even bolt on a flat plane, it's at an angle. I'm going to get a piece of aluminum and mill one out to fit... the manual indicates that the links may need to be cut. Haven't even looked at them yet.

My rear brackets are flat, but I had aftermarket mounts. Don't recall what the stock front or rears looked like. My stock swaybar was left in a shed in NY when I moved anyways. ha!

Just out of curiosity, how big of a deal is the sway bar? Will it have a significant or a minor affect handling? Mine's bent badly and I'd rather not replace it if it's a minor thing.

My guess is FFR would not use it if they did not feel it was needed. They may have had too much body sway without it.

In general, a stiffer front sway bar biases the handling from oversteer to understeer.
So, given that the 818S's suspension was tuned with a front sway bar, not having one will make it more tail happy. How much so, and how big a deal it is, probably only Wayne is qualified to answer.
Since a larger rear sway bar is a common upgrade to reduce understeer on WRX's, finding a used OEM unit cheap shouldn't be difficult.

Hadn't thought of that. I'll poke around. Thanks! :)

I don't remember if I got that far before my three week hiatus.

Clearly the answer to this question must be 5. ;)

I see people trying to sell them often without success as almost nobody wants them. Try to get them for free first, then offer $20.

Figured this fit here. Anyone install the shifter with the washers yet? I put my rivnuts centered on the rails since there isn't much material around the but as is and I wanted to make sure it could fully compress and not hit the wall. My offset washers are still missing the holes by about a bolt width. I'll probably just come up with something else. Just wondering if anyone else had better success.

I looked at mine and wasn't happy with how they aligned. I think the whole shifter setup is a bit "off" it sits way too high for my taste. I'm looking at alternative mounting for it somehow, perhaps make up something out of aluminum... just cutting the shaft lower still won't make me happy. Perhaps I'll make an alternative tunnel assembly

Digging up this thread again. I'm mounting my brake master right now and..... Jesus....
First off, all 9 holes don't line up right, I have to 'finesse' the box in place and really work to get the button head allen bolts in the front through the firewall to attach the pedal box.
Got the 2 5/16" holes drilled, the passenger side one is completely wrong and useless. You can't possibly get a nut on the back side of that. To top it off, the 1" bolts that are supplied leave me with 1-1.5 threads tops, so it's off to Ace, again.
We're trying to bend lines tomorrow, everything will be close but obviously I can't have my brake master held on by one bolt that's too short.
Edit: Best I could do on short notice was find two long OEM bolts and grind the piss out of the one to make it work. I'll have to find a better and more permanent solution since this is one of those parts that can't be half-assed on, it is the brake master.

Master sits crooked too....

I bolted the master cylinder to the firewall from the inside first using the 5/16" button heads. Then I just clearanced the pedal box to clear the button heads on the inside on the firewall. I used a 5/8 bit through the 5/16" holes that I had already drilled and cleaned it up with the dremel. I can still get an allen wrench on the button heads incase I ever need to remove the master cylinder.

We all had those issues. Used longer bolts and either cut a clearance on the box or ground one side of a bolt head to fit. Can't remember if the hardware update kit had those parts.

I ground off one side of the head of the bolt so it is captured, and then put the nut on the outside. And, my master cylinder is also a little tipped to the side, which will work fine.

Good to know my MC is not the only one angled a little bit.
I did what AZPete did.

Ok, good to know. I'm beefing this up a bit more, pics to come later. Big build day here at the shop.
