Warning, this is a crazy idea, and i dont really have any intention on doing it, but still thought i should get some feedback.

After seeing the H6 would fit, and discussions on sound, it goe me thinking. I used to be into aircooled VW's, which have a H4 engine of course. THe cool setup on those are dual down draft webers.

I was thinking " Would it not be awsome to have dual webers on a subie engine?"

I can see only limited benifits to this though.

1. greatly simplify wiring
2. cool sound
3. possible upper RPM HP gains, if the carbs are big and the intakes are short
4. very original.

Now my idea would be to ditch all the factory ignition and injection, basically just a long block. Use a crank firing iginition system, should not be very hard to do.

Then have custom welded intake manifolds created to fit a Weber 48 IDA per side. One barrel per cylinder.

Now, linkage, and proper tuning would suck, but should be possible on a dyno.

Any thoughts on this crazy idea?

Sure - three barrel IDA's off a late '60's Porsche would do.

Lots of tho$e floating around. Another alternative would be using some of the old classic one barrels - Carters, Rochesters, Solexes, etc. MUCH less expensive, sizing is ok, economical parts. Linkage isn't that much harder.

Don't forget some nice shiny stacks crossing over the motor.

Look into VW and Porsche 914 conversions. I think I've seen exactly what you're talking about.

Some people do this on the olders subarus. Below is the manifold they typicaly use.

(if any one wants it let me know. I'll unload it for cheap)

I wonder if anyone has done downdraft Webers on an EZ30R-H6 ??

well people have carbureted EJ22s before, so its no that crazy, and I'm sure there is some good info out there. Not sure if i have seen or heard of an H6 though, but there might be a sandrail out there some where with an carb'd eg33.

but keep in mind, all the benefits of the EZ30R motor like the AVCS and DBW will not agree with a carb. if you were going to go this route i would start with the EZ30D from the 3rd gen outback as it never had some of the extra electronic witchcraft in the beginning.

I doubt it for the reasons i mentioned above.

I was hoping to carb a N/A 2.5 L. just need to find manifolds if they exist and properly size the carbs

Do you think there would be power gains from swapping to dual carbs? seems like it would increase flow

Not too many years ago, the standard configuration on motorcycles was a single carb for each cylinder, with a VERY short intake track. Can't see why it wouldn't work for this application as well. As was mentioned above though, if the engine has AVCS and other electronic stuff, the components (cam profiles, etc.) probably wouldn't be ideally suited for carburetion. Find components to address any such issues might be challenging.
