I just wanted to give a bump to the guys over at HRT/T Hoff (http://www.t-hoff.com/Machine%20Shop.html) performance in Durham, NC for a fantastic experience and quality build of my EJ257 longblock.
They aren't a Subaru specific machine shop but the guys there are top-notch, extremely experienced and detail oriented machinists. Not only that, but they take pride in their work and have extremely reasonable prices for their services.
I've worked with SEVERAL Subaru-specific performance shops in NC and have been more than underwhelmed by their lack of professionalism, willingness to cut giant corners in their work, lack of communication and inability to stand behind their products. My experience at HRT was something of a game-changer for me. It proved that there are talented, dedicated positive individuals in the performance motoring service industry who will go to great lengths to exceed expectations in every category.
So, If you're in the RTP area in North Carolina and need work done to your Subaru engine, take it to the guys at HRT and they'll be up-front with you, will do quality work, won't over-charge you and ultimately, will take pride in and stand behind their product which isn't something you can find in other performance shops in the area.
