Rear End Width
Does anyone know or could measure the width of their Moser rear end? Axle flange to axle flange (without the rotors on it) I've found mix info on the web for the S197 diff measurements.
I think its 65.5"
Also, do you think it would be better if it was narrower? or wider? or does it fit perfect within the chassis?
I'm waiting on my order from FFR and figured I would start building the rear end.
ps: its going to have an electric parking brake (no cables), 4.11 gears, bolt in axles, and an axle tube brace kit
Thank you

Hi Dave
I did a quick measurement (I have brakes and wheels mounted) and it looks like it's about 65-ish - so whatever a standard S197 Mustang. I got the Factory Five spec Moser rear end as it comes with all of the brackets ready to go. Are you planning to drive the or race it? 4.11 gears is pretty extreme for one of these on the street. I have 3.55 in my Hot Rod with a TKO behind a 383 and it pulls like a train in 5th gear. My truck is running an LS with ZF 8HP70 and the same rear end.
Be careful with adding stuff to your rear end as the mounting points and panhard rod may get in the way of your plans. I expect that if you start changing the width, then the impact on all of the other mounting points will become a fun exercise.
Good Luck.

I'm using the 8HP-70 trans as well, but with a turbo charged 4 cyl. It's going to want to cruise at 2500-3000 rpms and redline at 8K. When looking at the data I think 4.11 should work the best, but will probably disable 1st gear. With the super low 4.714 1st gear ratio and the torque converter stall speed the 1-2 shift would happen very quickly 4.11.PNG 3.73.PNG3.55.PNG

I'm working on a bracket to mount the shifter. Let me know if interested.
