My car is in paint. I’ve read to ask for extra clear coat for future paint correction. Should I do this? How many coats? Thanks!

Ask your painter what he's comfortable with. I always do 3 coats of PPG Deltron DCU 2021. Some manufacturers recommend 3 maximum due to the potential for delamination. In the world of youtube "experts" some are saying to "stack" on 5 coats so that you can cut off 3. If you can lay it down slick you won't have to sand 3 coats off to get it smoothBut hey, that's just my opinion.

Oh yes, I remember those days back in 1974 shooting Martin Senour acrylic lacquer (rather amazing that I can remember it actually, given the lack of personal protection and resulting depletion of brain cells)

I did one of those lacquer jobs at about the same time, the same way, and the same color (without clear). This picture is from last year, and it looks OK from this distance.
My memory of the task is that my second coat stripe pass back to the rear, found a June bug on the trunk, clawing through the white, dragging-up blue. Wet sand and repeat.

It came to mind that my brother's tribute was the third of three Mustangs that were painted that way at that time. The race cars effectively disappeared, the 70 to a FFR member in northern WI and the 66 is somewhere in CA.

The last lacquer paint job I did before sanding. Would have been around 83/84.

And after sanding & buffing. No PPE for me either which probably explains a lot.
