Return fuel feed
Gents,
I haven’t had much time to work on the roadster lately but today I was in the shop for a bit. I have a new scope so I thought I would take a look in the gas tank to see how much fuel was left (verifying the fuel gauge). I noticed my return feed hose is dumping right into the Fuel pick up “pan”. That feels like it should not be doing that. Is that correct? I can likely move it fairly easily by using a long grappler, but thought I should check. Or perhaps it doesn’t really matter.
Thoughts?

It should be outside the pick-up pan if possible. Helps to keep the ‘pick-up’ fuel less turbulent, to enable easier pumping.

OTOH putting it into the pickup pan helps keep the pan full during cornering.

Stock Fox bodies did the same. My stock pan has been like that for 26yrs, no issues. Also, on my '02 Coyote swap Mustang, I put the return into the "fuel sump/pump" can (center of tank) and can run that down to less than 3gal on track. Before that change, maybe just below 1/2 tank before having starving issues in corners.

That is how it should be.
As a second note, the returning fuel is thought to help keep the pump cool. I have no proof of that, but I've seen that idea posted about.
