Question Coyote + mk5 engine bay clearance question

    Coyote + mk5 builders, I have a fitment question!

I have modified a summit heater for the mk5, and now that I'm getting to the right footbox panels, the defroster hose outlet is potentially coming out into the engine bay in a poor location.

It depends on exactly how wide the coyote is at roughly the right footbox top is. I have some outlets, on the side of the heater box, that would pop into the engine bay right below the top frame bar, then run along the side of the firewall, up and into the upper trans tunnel (where the X frame members, above the trans tunnel) and into the behind-dash area for defroster. The hoses I have are 2" for the most offensive located one (the defroster hose, destination is the dash) and 2.5" for the cabin heater outlets.

On the image, I have outlined the route where the defroster hose would take, to route to the trans tunnel and to behind the dash.

I would love some info from a mk5 builder, with a coyote in engine bay, on the clearance for this area long the footbox wall. Ideally, I would want about 2.5"-3" clearance so the heater air hoses don't interfere with the engine.

If it is a fitment problem, I can rework the outlets to adjust the routing plan (likely by eliminating the defroster outlet and splitting the cabin air hose).

Thanks for any info that you can give on this routing!

This is a picture of the Aluminator in my Mk5 build. It's a custom version of a Coyote so the same physical size. The clearance in the area you're asking about is visible. Hope this helps.

Thanks Paul! That image is exactly what I needed.

This confirmed my worry, the hose in question would pop out of the passenger footbox slightly below the top of the footbox (just below the frame bar, so 2" or so from the top, which will get pretty close to the side of the coyote. I will need to drop my heater panel out and rebuild it with just two outlets. A bit of annoyance, but better to do it now than to try to retrofit it later...

If you ever feel like doing a walk-around with a video camera and posting it someplace, that would be a great reference for planning the coyote in that engine bay. But even without that, the photo is a great resource.
