Question Extra Carpet Supply - FFR changed since 2018 Kit?

    Hello,

FFR was not able to help me on this one. I picked up my kit way back in 2018 October… due to life, I’m getting back into it and nearing total completion of my rolling chassis, not quite ready to dive into the body work and plan to go kart—>register—>drive in gel coat for this summer.

Anyway, I needed extra carpet to fill some spots (due to copious amounts of heat/sound mat) and to structure the tunnel carpet slightly different than comes with the kit. So I ordered from FFR….received it this past week and it is totally different material and different black. Original one is slightly thicker and a deeper black.

FFR couldn’t even tell me if they change suppliers or the spec since then…anyway I am looking for if anyone has sourced additional carpet from around that timeframe that is a match to the old style. I ordered a sample from an online source, just waiting for that now to compare. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Nick

I cant help you with the carpet but you could use some carpet spray paint and blend in the areas that are not as black. I know its not a great solution but could possibly work.

How much carpet has been applied? Is it worth biting the bullet, pulling what you have out, and going to a marine carpet and redoing the entire cockpit?
Is it possible to use and interior specialist like an Intatrim to finish the areas you have missing with a leather or suede? Or are we talking carpet missing in odd places?

Does anyone know the sq ft that is needed for doing the cockpit and the trunk?

Check the automotive carpet at your local Lowes, Menards and Home Depot. The backing may be different from the FFR supplied carpet but any difference in the top side will be pretty much indistinguishable.

@LSX, With the amount of heat/sound mat I’m using on the front wall/footbox inside walls, it leaves about an inch gap. I don’t want there to be an inch gap in the carpet.

@M22_COBRA, I don’t really want to have to re-cut 100% of the cuts. Most of them fit, but the few that the heat and sound mat make a larger overall area are the problem pcs.

At this point I am strongly considering sacrificing the tunnel top and doing vinyl there in order to use that for my fill in pcs.

My first build was from early 2018. I went another route on carpet and have most all of the set that came with the kit. How much do you need? I can send you a couple pieces that you can cut out what is needed to fill in your spots.

How much do you need. I have some left over scraps still from my build and I received my kit in 2020 so should be pretty close to what you have. Not to mention I am fairly local to Brighton being in Ypsilanti. PM me.

My Kit was 2012, I bought the "best" carpet at an automotive upholstery store in Oxnard, CA in 2023 and it matches pretty well.

Try an auto upholstery supply store.

I bought extra carpet for my trunk from Bass Boat Seats & Carpet in the link below:

I used the 20-oz version in BLACK and it matched very well so you can check my Naked Cobra before reassembly.

I just bought some extra carpet from FFR and put it next to the carpet (uninstalled) from my 2018 MK4. It's definitely a different color. I'm using it in the trunk so not sure you would notice the different, but it's pretty obvious. Looks like different thickness as well (new stuff is thinner).
