    New Owner and Member!

Hello everyone! I'm really excited to be a part of this community! The Daytona has been my dream cars for some time and I was lucky enough to snag a gen 3 Daytona about two weeks ago (arrived this Monday). I know the motto is "Built not bought" but hey, someone's gotta buy em when people are selling, right!? I'm located in Plainfield, IL so if any others are in close proximity I would love to meet up, join any clubs, and make some new friends!

With all that being said, I've unfortunately got some expected and unexpected kinks to work out with the car and I was hoping the community might be able to help point me in the right direction as I'm missing some information.

    1. I was under the impression the "wings" that go on the center hub of the wheels were inverse on one side of the vehicle compared to the other? I had new tires put on the vehicle as soon as I got it and unfortunately the center hub part was seized on the "wing" where I had to take some extra measures to get them off (yes the hex screw was backed out). Wheels are the 17" halibrand ones.
    - I found that all 4 "wings" on all 4 wheels were clockwise to tighten, and counter clockwise to loosen. I thought there was something where one side was inverse? I hope I don't need to buy 2 new wings because per FF site they are not cheap.
    - I need to get at least 3 new center pieces of the rim...best to just call FF for this?
    Screenshot 2025-10-03 at 6.28.59 PM.jpgScreenshot 2025-10-03 at 6.59.19 PM.png

    2. Windshield arms and blades: Some material that I saw was with a 12" and 15" arm if I recall correctly? Or are both arms 15" for the Daytona? I received 2 15" arms/blades. Does the Arm just go over that circular piece? (everything else is installed and operational it seems) I also received another box that was inside the box with the windshield arms "TFF15203" that had an assortment of parts. I can't quite figure out what that should go to.
    Screenshot 2025-10-03 at 6.29.09 PM.jpgScreenshot 2025-10-03 at 6.29.17 PM.jpg

    3. Side windows: Maybe this was a personal preference that the last owner had, but I noticed on the passenger side, the frame that the window slid back and forth on was on the outside, and on the driver side the frame was on the inside. Should this be consistent across both windows and if so, frame where the window slides left/right on the inside or outside?
    Screenshot 2025-10-03 at 6.35.47 PM.jpgScreenshot 2025-10-03 at 6.35.54 PM.jpg

    4. Side Mirrors: It looks like I have the standard polished driver side mirror (part #15834)...needless to say, it is pretty useless. I see a lot of new Daytonas have the side mirrors that are for the 818 kit. Is it a direct swap regarding the holes to mount/support the mirrors, or at least the outer dimensions are the same of where it attaches to the door? I'm wanting to replace the driver side mirror, and then add a passenger side (so new holes on the passenger door) so that I have a bit more visibility. Would be amazing to not need to modify the driver door, but I'm sure that is wishful thinking.
    Screenshot 2025-10-03 at 7.01.27 PM.pngScreenshot 2025-10-03 at 7.02.14 PM.png

    5. Side exhaust heat shield: While I know this vehicle is not supposed to have one per the true vintage looks, unfortunately two people have already burnt their legs despite multiple warnings when getting in/out of the car. I think out of safety (and I actually don't mind how it looks) I would like to get this addressed. My Daytona has the single "biog quiet pipe" exhaust. I believe the cobra heat shield is not long enough...are people buying the ones that fit over the 66' style corvette side exhausts? I'm attaching a picture of a recent Daytona that I saw on BaT where the fitment looks great.
    Screenshot 2025-09-16 at 4.32.53 PM.jpg

    6. Gas tank size? I put 10 gallons in the other day when the tank was near empty and it brought it to about 3/4. Unfortunately the pump "popped" at that point and I didn't want to risk overfilling it.

Beside those things, I've unfortunately got one bad injector and they don't make this injector any longer, so I need to buy 8 new ones of a different size and get the car retuned (which is proving some difficulty), rear main seal leak, very squishy brakes, and some electrical gremlins with the high beams and left turn signal to work out... I hope nothing else rears its head. Once I get these knocked out, I hope to address some other things down the road.

I appreciate any and all help! And again, really excited to be a part of this community and looking forward to future meetups!

Congrats! Any pics of the car, detail about the engine, trans, etc? If it was built with the standard Mustang gas tank, it's 15.4 gallons.

Hi @gbranham, I could only upload so many pics on the last post, so hopefully I can add more here.

This was a Gen 3 purchased by the seller in April of 2018 and seemed to have been completed shortly after. Only 263 miles were on it when I purchased it two weeks ago.
    - Engine/trans info: 427 (351w stroked) Dart long block (iron) from Fordstrokers with a Hilborn 8 stack ITB and EFI. About 450 hp and torque to the wheels per the dyne sheet. Tremac 5 Spd manual. Unfortunately I don't know final drive ratio or rear end housing...assuming 8.8" and 3.55 at this point (seller was not able to tell me this info).
    - Brakes/Suspension: IRS. Wilwood 6 piston front and 4 back.
    - Wheels/tires: 17" Halibrand ; 245/45 front and 315/35 rear
    - Color is Viking Pass Blue. It's an absolutely gorgeous color.

After I get the injector, brakes, and electrical issues resolved, I'll start to tackle down the more personal preference items.

Weird, I had a response written to you @gbranham and with pics, but for some reason I think my post is being flagged for spam?

My suggestion is to take one issue at a time in order of importance. Otherwise, you will be overwhelmed in a short time. Oil leak / injectors priority one etc,, Best of luck and keep at it.

    2. The Coupe uses 15" wipers. Those wiper pieces you pictured come with the wiper kit but aren't using on the coupe since it has the wiper locations molded into the body.

    3. The optional Factory Five side windows have the sliding porting on the inside on both sides.

    4. Don't know anything about the 818 side mirrors. I have Peter Brock's side mirrors on mine, which do look similar but I don't think they're exactly the same. Many have used certain motorcycle mirrors which also look similar (and a lot cheaper) to the Peter Brock mirrors. I have no idea if the mounting location or bolt pattern is the same as what you have. I'd be surprised if they are to be honest.

    Good luck working everything out.

    Congratulations on your new-to-you Daytona!

I want to 2nd what bil1024 said - My suggestion is to take one issue at a time in order of importance. Otherwise, you will be overwhelmed in a short time.

These cars are fun but things can get expensive in a hurry...make a list of what NEEDS to be done and another list for what you WANT to have done and then take them one at a time.

Best of luck to you and enjoy the ride!

Congratulations and welcome! On the wheel spinners (knock-offs), they should tighten by spinning toward the rear of the car and loosen by rotating toward the front of the car; opposite the forward rolling direction of the wheels. I'd call Factory Five to see if you can just order the parts you need vs. the $130 kits. They are unique to Factory Five, so you likely won't find them anywhere else.

Today is your lucky day. I have 4 spinners and 4 hubs that I never used from my MkIV build. They came with my Halibrand wheels. Yours for the price of shipping. I don't have the lug cover that comes with these...I gave them to another forum member. Boom! Pay it forward to the next guy sometime. PM me if you're interested. Happy to help a new forum member.

Ok, so it looks like I can maybe post responses finally! I'm truly excited about this car. I'll start from the top and work my way down:

@gbranham , I'll try and post pics below. I could only post 10 pics in my 1st post.
Build: 2018 manufactured Gen 3, seems to have been completed in 2018. Purchased from the seller with 263 miles on it.
Engine: 427 Dart Longblock (351W stroked) from Fordstroker, Hilborn 8 stack ITB and Holley EFI; Dyno sheet says about 450 hp and torque to the wheels
Transmission/gearing: Tremac 5sp ; seller was not able to tell me gearing and rear end housing. Assuming 8.8" and 3.55?
Brakes/Suspension: Wilwood 6 piston front and 4 piston rear breaks, IRS, Koni coilovers
Color: Viking Pass Blue (color is absolutely stunning)

@bil1024 and @cadtdi , that is the plan. I couldn't agree more on trying to tackle needs first before wants (and to make a list!), or else it could snowball and become overwhelming. Fuel injectors and retune should be done next week. Oil leak, brakes, high beam and turn signal issues I'm shooting for end of October. If these items get resolved by the end of October, that should give me a month of driving enjoyment before winter hits.

@edwardb , Thank you for the input on the wipers, windows, and mirrors. I fixed the windows this past Saturday so they are now uniform. Wipers I'll probably install next week (non urgent) and then I'll tackle down the mirror situation with more research this winter.

@8secduster , I believe that would be the one. The FF serial number ends with 81DC.

@gbranham , you are amazing with this unbelievably kind gesture.

Looks like I have some restrictions on my account until I hit 10 posts...

@Jeff Kleiner , the side pipe in that image is the boig quiet pipe (I also have the boig quiet pipes). I'm interested in the perforated heat shield that is mounted around it. I know these are common for the cobra owners to put around their single side pipe, but it looks like the cobra side pipes are maybe shorter than the Daytona side pipes? I'm just curious on what others have done (did they buy ones for the cobra or did they buy ones for the 66' model corvette?) and where I may be able to purchase. I was hoping someone would somehow know of the ones in the specific image I had posted as visually and length wise, I like those the best. I would like to prevent more burnt legs haha.

    Regarding some pics, see below!
