Question Any opinions - Boig vs. Gasn-n?

    Hi guys,

I did a quick search and didn't find a topic on this (surprised!). So here goes as my 289 kit is on order and it's time to start getting some parts lined up

I know a lot of you have used Gas-n and Boig for your exhaust - I'm looking at both (touring style in the case of the Gas-n). Does anyone have any recommendations? They both seem to be great products, with the big difference being that the Gas-n pipes are stainless and I don't have to ship my original side pipes back for update. The Gas-n are a bit more expensive but when you factor in shipping and stuff it's not that big a difference. I'd appreciate any input - thanks! And BTW Gas-n does have their Labor Day sale this weekend so that could factor in too

    Thanks,

    Rob

I love my GasN Pipes. I have 16K miles on mine and they still look as good as new. The exhaust outlets are angled down a bit and it can be annoying if you are on a dusty road. Other than that, they are perfect. Great support from Georgie if you need it. A little deeper tone and just loud enough.

When I built mine, there weren't many options for the 289. I actually ran into that issue a lot with aftermarket parts. Fortunately, Bob was local so it made things easier logistically. The pipes have held up well. GasN has a great reputation as well. Either choice is good, sounds like you're on the right path with the cost analysis.

I have Boig on 1 car, and Gasn on the 2nd car. In my opinion, what really matters most in that decision is how you want them finished. I had my Boig pipes cera-coated black because they don't offer them in any finish. (obviously you can choose a lot of options on how to have them coated)

I picked the gasn's for car 2 because I was after the polished look, and they are gorgeous.

Both bolted right up and work well. Both sound great.

I have Gas-N on my MK2, but I am leaning towards Boig for the 289 pipes.

When I talked to Boig, he suggested cutting the mufflers out of the FFR 289 side pipes to reduce the shipping costs, and his price to do the conversion does include the return shipping.

I will have a local guy do the cera-coating.

I've got about 600 miles on my car with Gas'n Touring pipes and headers. I absolutely love them and think they are the perfect combination of tone and volume. I don't need ear plugs at all but can definitely hear them at idle and everywhere else. I can get a slight headache after driving the car for about an hour, but that's not only because of the exhaust. I don't think I would want any louder or quieter. They're the sweet spot for me and the fit and finish are excellent. The only downside is that the inside tubes are 2" where they come out of the baffle, so you basically have a dual 2" exhaust system. I'm sure it hurts top end power a bit, but I think it's worth it for the overall driving experience and I would guess the open perforated tube flows better than baffles. If you absolutely have to have ALL the power you can't have a quiet (or quieter) exhaust. But even if I'm losing 20hp on the top end I would get them all over again.

That's a really good point. With my 289 car I was planning to go with black pipes. I'd be painting those nice Gas-n pipes. The Boig pipes are "just" mild steel, and I don't have any issues breaking out the BBQ Black paint for those

I did talk to the gent at Boig - he mentioned cutting up the pipes as well. I didn't realize his price also includes return shipping so that's a great data point. Both of these guys make great products. If I was planning polished pipes then I think this would be a no-brainer, but since I'm planning on going black it does seem that Boig would make more sense.

Black pipes on 289s just look better in my opinion.
