    Brake handle and cable mods

The FFR brake handle is a royal pain in the butt.
In my second round of looking at this I was able to get a descent pull but it scrapes the bottom of the brake handle bracket.

I already have the mod with the pulleys.
In order to improve the situation a tried a few mods to the handle and settled in on welding a straight piece of metal. The first two mods failed miserably.

So now it's really tight. 1 click to full lock. So I tried to loosen the adjustable rod I have and if it's too loose the cable comes off the pulley . I am trying to find a happy medium. Maybe some sort of chanel to keep the cables in line from coming off under the pulley. Or some kind of spring and guide. Don't know. Seeking some options.

It took me a ridiculously long time to get the parking brake to work right. If I ever have to muck with it again I'll replace it with one of those remote electric ones and ditch the handle completely.

It's really too bad there isn't an electric parking brake integrated into the caliper like so many other new cars and trucks. No wonky cables, no handle and mechanism to deal with.

I just finished relocating mine to the top of the trans tunnel (due to T56 interfering w/ side location). Was still a pain to dial it in. If anyone is interested here's some details on my build thread w/ a video explaining it. I think this is similar to how it gets mounted in the '65 Coupe build.

Whish I could help with the fine tuning your working on. My instinct would be guides to hold the cables in place. But.. where would the slack go? Or.. springs to take up the slack perpendicular to the cable? Sounds hokey though.

My brake handle mod feels nearly OEM. Has been working flawlessly since day 1. And I still apply it every time I park. Easy to access, easy to pull, and plenty of holding power.

Nice job w/ the Miata handle. Where did you get the boot for the e-brake handle? I'm planning to make one custom w/ my saddle leather to match my seats but not sure what template to use. Maybe I could use the stock FFR one, cut it up a bit so that it fits my current mounting scheme and then give that to the upholsterer as a pattern?

I used the boot provided in the kit. It just manages to work. I 3D printed a bezel out of ABS. Might CNC a nicer one one day.
