Aluminum washer fluid tank

A while ago Shane was making a really nice washer fluid tank for the GTM. Unfortunately it was beautiful but difficult to produce. A few lucky guys got one. They are no longer for sale.

At minimum I wanted a tank that would tuck into an unused portion of the under hood area. The cut out of the FFR kit wiper motor mount is begging for a tank to be built into it so this is what I did.



Sadly I like the way it looks from the bottom more then the top, but oh well. Ill drill a hole and mount the washer pump from the tank supplied with the kit. Its overkill for a washer tank but it was fun to make and nothing says motorsports to me more then lots of one of a kind aluminum parts.

Terrific work! I agree that it looks better from the bottom. You could always make some kind of fill from the bottom jig if you need to, then hang it upside down... ;-o)

I think it will look super in your engine compartment. Very nice craftsmanship!!

What did you use for aluminum stock? .050 or so thick? Nice welds

Ha that's funny Vidal. I am sure in the next few months ill be down in your neck of the woods. We can make a quick trip to the indy racing experience at Disney. Rip around the oval then do some GTM building. Sounds like a dream vacation to me.

I don't think the airline will allow my welder as checked baggage however.

What did you use for aluminum stock? .050 or so thick? Nice welds

I used .125 3003. Easy to bend and not so thin that I would have trouble welding it to the thicker top plate.

Sure I could have gone with a little thinner but when you compare the weight difference, add an extra cup of fluid to the lighter tank and the weight difference is gone.

I have been thinking of welding up a gas tank and was thinking of using .125 so this was a practice run.

Bottom line .125 is easier to weld. I'm only a beginner when it comes to TIG welding and I need all the help I can get.
