Door Gaps | Body Work | How did you do it?

    All,
Couple of Questions on Door Gaps:

How did you gaps your doors/hood/trunk?

    I’ve seen this method:

    Or

Did you use paint tape and sand them back?

    Last question:
How big of an edge can you create with Rage Gold?
-some of the gaps are large and need to build out the edge on a couple of areas of the door

    Thanks,
    Matt

I did mine !!! If you need to add to an edge you need to bevel the area front and back and use HSRF . We call it "door stretching". You don't want regular body filler on the edges... Ad Tab

HSRF is impossible to find and 3M isn't quoting delivery dates! Every online/local purchase I've tried has been cancelled due to unavailability.

Maybe fill in the body door frame lip some instead of the door edge?

YUP! I just got two gallons.....only waited 4 months. It should start showing up on the shelves. They are filling backorders first. In the interim I made my own with vinyl ester resin and a couple different fillers from West System epoxy fillers. Da Bat

This is helpful. I’m thinking of doing some of the rough filling work myself. Do you need glass on the thick fills ( like the top edge of the doors), or can you use HFRS only ?

Is there a preferred brand/type of rage gold ?

    Thanks

I used the kitty hair because it was available and should not chip. HFRS is hard as concrete, works great. Rage Gold is good stuff, recommended by alot of folks here on the forum but I wouldn't use it to build up thick areas or building out edges.

Is the body shop going to give you a big discount for roughing in the body work? If not and your going to send it off to someone for paint...I would let them do it...they'll know exactly what to do.
----------Side note - only send your car to someone whose done several of these cars before...lots of people like Jeff, Ed and others you could reach out to here on the forum for bodywork/paint.
