Question 33 Hot Rod / 35 Truck - Arizona - Big guy fitment advice

    HI all,

I live in Phoenix, Arizona and am looking to find any owners who have a '33 or '35 that would be willing to assist with a fitment test?

6'4 - 285lbs and wanna make sure before I pull the trigger on one of these beautiful vehicles, that I actually fit before I embark on a lifelong dream of building my own toy.

Talking with Factory five, they indicated that the current '35 is big enough, but I'm having some doubts based on what I'm reading. The '33 seems more applicable to bigger guys, but again, not going to base my investment on material that has not been vetted.

IF anyone is out here on the West Coast, and willing to assist, I would be very grateful for any feedback.

    Thanks in advance.

    Brian

Maybe you've seen this is some other posts. And perhaps Factory Five's answered assumed this. The truck is getting 4 inches added to the cab. Saw the prototype chassis at the open house. The bed will stay the same, so the wheelbase will be 4 inches longer. Haven't heard a formal release date. But heard that it's supposed to be in the next couple months and anything ordered now, based on the leadtime, would be the stretched version at delivery.

    Brian,

I've sat in a 33HR. I'm 6'3" with a longer inseam (think hardboiled egg on stilts LOL), ~ 200 lbs. For the seat setup in the car I tried with my knees bent up higher than usual there was no support under my thighs so that would probably require some work for longer trip comfort.

To be on the safe side I'd also invest in a tilt steering wheel/column. I have for my order.

You may also want to look into the Speedstar, word is that it has a little more length.

I have gen 1 33 and I am 6'4" , about 190. It is going to be tight. My 350z daily feels absolutely spacious compared to the hot rod. Tilt column is a must and and will most likely want different seats. I went with sheet metal bomber seats not only for the looks but to gain every fraction of an inch of extra space. With some properly placed pads they are actually fairly comfortable (think sitting in an Adirondack) but it is not a comfortable car for long road trips without stopping fairly often to stretch (and get gas). If you have big feet, like me, it will make a huge difference to go with an auto trans also. 3 pedals and the tiny foot box fills up pretty fast. Mine has a TKO and I have to drive bare foot - which is not really an issue for me because I pretty much always drive bare foot anyways.
Visibility is really limited also and will take a little while to get comfortable driving in traffic.
But, it is a blast to drive and I still love it. If your heart is not set on the hot rod, it would probably be a good idea to opt for the truck with the stretched cab.
Good luck with whatever route you go.

Invest a few $ and make a trip out to their factory. You can try on every car in the showroom, get a tour and talk to the experts. I visited there back in 2019 before I pulled the trigger on my Mk IV. Back then, the 35 truck was WAY too small for me (6'2" 220 lbs). I'm glad to hear that they are lengthening the truck a bit. I could just barely fit in the 33 if it had tilt wheel and auto transmission. I opened the door on the coupe and thought no way I'm going to embarrass myself trying to get in and out of it. LOL! Turns out you have to get someone to show you the entry/exit process, then it's a non-issue. Good luck!

To all whom have responded to my inquiry so far, THANK YOU!
I have a feeling I will end up heading for a weekend trip and visiting the factory unless I can find someone on the West Coast shortly.
Truly love this site, as the information is so invaluable and frank.

    Much Appreciated.

I have a couple 33's here you can try on. I am 6'3 and I don't fit in the 35 well at all. I probably could be pretty decent with seat selection and some mods but with your height I think you should wait for the extended cab.
