Need info on brake caliper

I have a Mark 4 complete kit with standard brakes. My RR caliper sometimes will not fully release after I let off the brakes. I’ve taken the caliper off and looked at it and can not see anything odd. All the brake lines going to it are good with no pinches. I am wanting to replace the caliper but am not for sure what to buy. Can someone give me the year and make of what I should ask for at the parts store?

When you say release do you mean hydraulically or mechanically. The e brake part of the cylinder may not be screwed all the way in if it is dragging.

If you open the bleeder does it release?

I’ve never been able to try releasing the pressure because by the time I get home it is released. When the RR does not release the other three are okay so I don’t think it’s a pressure problem.

Has it happened after you applied the ebrake. Mine usually sticks when I use the ebrake so I don't use it. That whole design on that ebrake set up needs to be redone. Cables rubbing on the frame!! Thats ubsurd. When I get time I am going to redo it because I like to use it to hold the car.

I have had to reach up to the wheel cylinder and pull the arm back to release by hand. Not good and hot wheels suck.

I think it depends on when you received your kit. I got mine in Jan 2019 and mine are the 87-88 T bird calipers. However, I think they more recently changed to a different rear caliper.

Mine was also a 2020 kit. FFR told me they were T Bird 87-88 calipers. I had bought some Mustang calipers that were powder coat red and they didnt fit. I Do have the Mustang front calipers in red i will let go for half price from Rock Auto.New.

their website shows 11.65" performance rear brakes from 99-04 mustang cobras.

do you have a pic of your current brake pads? the T bird pads have the metal spring/clip at the top that face a different direction than the 99-04 mustang pads.

I bought that rear brake kit last Jan and the Hawk pads for 99-04 I also bought were not even close. Measuring the pads F5 provided, they match dimensions on Hawks website for 88-89 T Bird.

you might check the guide pin fit on the caliper bracket. Oversize holes in the bracket could cause the brakes to "lock up". Another thought is the Cobra pads are thinner that the standard GT pads, to allow for the wider disk. Just some thoughts...

I have the same issue and was told the problem lies with the ebrake cable routing - going under the frame, more specifically, although I can’t see any other way without significantly redoing the whole set up. There’s a way to mitigate the issue by installing a spring on the cable at the very end of it, by the caliper, but I still have ebrake not completely releasing even with a spring installed. Might be a fun winter project to upgrade that, I’m thinking
