Breeze - Cubby Door
All,
I've cut out the Breeze Cubby Hole and now want to add a door to create a closed compartment.

I've seen doors on the Cubby Hole before...
What materials did you use?
How did you go about making the door?
How did you hinge it?
Did you add a lock?
I do plan on covering the door with leather...
Thanks for all the help in advance...

Another option (although a little pricey) is this marine glovebox. Remove a couple of screws and the tub comes off leaving you with a frame, hinge, and lockable door. Installed with nutserts.

this may work well, if you are doing the glovebox too - then you'll have a matched set!

I also have the Breeze cubby. I made sliding doors. They will be wood with veneer that matches the dash. I bought Z channel from McMaster-Carr and riveted to the panel. I made the top channel about 1/4 larger so I can insert the panel, push it up and then it drops into the lower track. I made them to the right width so the open to the max size.

I know Fixit did a pretty good write up on sliding doors on his build thread:
40 Watt Garage - Mk4 Build - Breeze Cubby - Pt. 2
Bradley
Build thread - Mk4, Coyote, IRS, Wilwood brakes, old-style soft top and accessories.
The distance between "finished" and finished is literally infinite.

I’m thinking about adding a door too

My plan is one of the following - neither would cover it being "secured" against someone trying to break into it.
1 - Use a piece of matching carpet, trim the edges to match the rest of the interior, and use snaps to hold the four corners in place
2 - Cut a door out of aluminum, piano hinge it, and use a trimmed piece of carpet as a cover that's large enough to overlap the edges. That covers the edges plus covers the piano hinge. Can either use snaps or industrial velcro on the bottom edge to keep it shut.
