My workshop is part of a motorcoach house I built last year. The shop area is 40’ x 30’ with 14’ ceilings, two 10’ x 12’ garage doors that serve the outside, and stand-up attic storage. An internal 10’ x 10’ roll-up door separates the RV area from the workshop. Compressed air, 120 & 220 VAC power outlets, and water faucets run along all interior and exterior walls. There’s also stand-up attic storage, cable TV, WiFi, bathroom, slop sink, alarms and cameras. The floors are epoxy/urethane and the entire building is heated and cooled with four 2-ton mini-splits. Externally the building is residential in nature and designed to match an adjacent guest house.

Thx. Labor of love to build it the way I wanted. Floor is Ceramic tile, with the entire sub floor covered with redgard with the expansion joints managed. The tiles are set with zero air pockets in the mortar. The grout is chemical resistant epoxy. Overall it's basically as hard as concrete and I've had zero chips or cracks, even with falling tools and metal. My epoxy in my main garage has chipped a few times with hammers or ratchets falling.

Here is something a little different. About 12 years ago I bought a 1,500 sq. ft. commercial shop in a historic but rough city neighborhood. I initially looked at the place, met the owner and made an offer. The owner didn't care for what he saw as a cheapskate yuppie kid trying to buy his shop for 75 cents on the dollar. I didn't care for what I felt was a profiteer's inflated price for a neglected shop in a crime-filled neighborhood, so that ended that. A year later I got a call from his realtor, inviting a higher offer in light of a larger garage door being installed and the police station moving a block away. After more negotiations over price and included equipment, a deal was made.
At the closing I met the owner's wife, and it turned out she was my niece and nephew's teacher at the church. At the end the owner invited me back to his house, saying he had a few more jack stands he could probably part with. We ended up talking at his house for hours about the history of the shop and the neighborhood. The shop was so old that its date of construction was and is unknown. It was supposedly used by the government to store confiscated moonshine during Prohibition, and was firebombed by gangsters in retaliation for taking their 'shine. The shop sits in the shadow of a massive Catholic church, the fate of which is the subject of litigation in the courts, the city council and the Vatican, with the church, preservationists and who knows who else all trying to have their way with the place.
The owner and I became good friends, our initial impressions of each other having been inaccurate. I told him to keep a set of keys to the shop and use it as he saw fit; he would stop by from time to time to see what was going on. A lot of the stories he told about drag racing and being a mechanic were so funny I wish I would have been able to tape them and listen to them from time to time. He would occasionally talk about serving as an Army Ranger and LRRP member in Vietnam, but not much. My friend passed away a few years ago, and I remain friends with his family. At some point I will have the mural I added to the shop updated to honor him and his service to his country.

Sorry to disappoint guys, but I’m slowly working towards a nice spot for my roadster. I’m hoping somebody here has experience in truss modification. What I’d like to do is modify the trusses so I have more clearance for a tall four post lift. I only need to move the bottom of them up about eight inches. There is no floor above this portion, just roof.
I recently did the wiring and pluming and pretty much finished the drywall. I’ll clear everything off that wall and cover it with cabinets I’ll build myself.
The problem with a roll up door is I won’t be able to open it when the car is up, so the idea is to buy or build an old fashioned swing out door and get rid of the overhead tracks, kind of like barn doors similar to this:
I’d enjoy someone’s experience on this too.

Just finished my 2 car residential garage remodel in August. Cobra build will be Summer next year (2021). I had to put a 10x10 shed in the back yard to relocate all the miscellaneous garage storage stuff. Here is a before and after:
