    Question It's no fun anymore

    HI ALL,
I just started the dreary job of bodywork. Some of my parting lines are below the surface and there are deep gouges around some of them.

I guess I have to dig them out and fill with Rage Gold. Is that correct? Or HSRF? OR ?? DO I have to remove all the gel coat or the Rage Gold won't stick?

Anyway this is the least fun part of the build. I really enjoyed the mechanical part and driving it in gel coat. But now...

BTW does anyone have info for Henry Reynard painter in Florida?

    Have a great day,

    Jeff

    Yes, The Body Work Sucks!

We used Rage Gold, Fibertech, and a little bit of Fiberglass too after properly prepping the body.
I blocked the car to smooth things out in an attempt to get the body fared before applying filler.
Prior to applying any fillers we degreased the body and roughed things up with 80 grit on a D/A.
The Fibertech was used for the few deep pits in the Gelcoat and where the doors met the dash in the cowl area.
The Fibertech and Fiberglass were both used to de-booger the famously boogered-up driver's door for a nice solution.

The first Cobra I built was a Classic Roadster, back in the late 90's. I did some of the preliminary body work - panel fit, cutting holes, etc. Then I had to pay someone to fix all that.

When I built the FFR, I just gave it to the body man and said, "Make it pretty". it was cheaper and easier that way.

Bodywork and wiring were the two things I'd never really done before - and I ended up really enjoying both. Surprisingly, I found the bodywork to be a great creative outlet and had lots of fun doing various mods on my car. Sure, it took me an entire spring and summer - actually well into fall - and it was tedious (and hot..... and itchy.......) at times, but I always get a good feeling when I stand back and look at my car.

Keep at it and give it everything you've got - you'll be proud of the results for years to come!!!

Here it is with six-year-old paint and nearly 17k miles...... still looks as good as the day we rolled it out of the booth.

Henry Renaud (65 Cobra Dude) here on the forum is who you are referring to. PM him and he’ll be happy to help if he can.

EDIT: Sorry, I hadn’t seen your other post and I see Henry replied.
