Hello from Tampa, FL

Hello to everyone from Tampa. My name is Dmitriy and I've been a lurker here for some time. I don't have any car building experience but I am patient and can follow directions fairly well. I've been obsessing with MK4 kit, and while a bit intimated I feel like it's something I can do. I started to clear out junk out of my garage and I feel like I could be ready to pull the trigger fairly soon.

I do have a few questions which maybe totally silly, but hopefully these will help someone else looking for same

- How long does it take to receive the kit once order is placed?
- Are all kits considered street legal cars?
- Is there a VIN or VIN equivalent?
- Where can I find a list of tools needed and recommended for the build?
- I feel like installing the engine is the most complicated part. Am I wrong?

Hello Dmitriy. Welcome! No questions are silly. My responses:

- How long does it take to receive the kit once order is placed?
A: When you place your order, they will give you a production completion date. Usually in the 6-8 weeks range, but could vary of course. That's when it's done at Factory Five. The delivery process if you use Stewart could be fairly quick or as much as several weeks depending on activity, routes, etc.

- Are all kits considered street legal cars?
A: I believe all the kits Factory Five sells can be made street legal. A Mk4 Roadster definitely is.

- Is there a VIN or VIN equivalent?
A: The kit will be assigned a chassis serial number and come with a Manufacturers Certificate of Origin. The actual VIN is assigned by your local state authorities. Some use the serial number. But most make up a new VIN. By all means do your homework and learn about your local titling and licensing requirements.

- Where can I find a list of tools needed and recommended for the build?
A: Buy and download the build manual. Available in the parts catalog. Best $10 you'll spend. It has a list of required tools plus will give a good sense of the build steps. That's also a subject that is discussed a lot on this forum. Numerous threads available.

- I feel like installing the engine is the most complicated part. Am I wrong?
A: Hard to say. Depends on the engine you use. Some are more complicated than others. Not sure I'd make that general statement though. Depends a lot on you. Many cite electrical wiring as the most challenging. But again that varies widely.

Welcome Dmitriy! You have builders and car owners in the area that are willing to share their knowledge and help with questions. You are fortunate that you have a professional builder, Henry Renaud (65 Cobra Dude here on the forum) in Port Charlotte that I know would be happy to answer any questions and show you the cars he has in his shop.
I’m in Punta Gorda and bought mine completed.
I’m sure others in the area will reach out to help you as well.
Also, check out “Edwardb’s” build threads. It’s excellent documentation of his builds that can also give you insight into the process. Order the manual in PDF form and read it. Many recommend attending the build school as well to give you hands on experience with experts to answer questions.

Do yourself a favor and go over some build threads. IMO the body work and paint can be the hardest part. That is why I farm that out to a pro. I recently built this one for a fellow and his son in Tampa. I have 4 more MK4 build threads if you are intersted. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Welcome... I spent a good portion of my teenage years in Tampa. EdwardB has answered your questions very well. Be sure to read through several build threads, you will be amazed how much you can learn. The folks here will be a great asset to your build. Again, Welcome.
