A part that was designed by Ford to last 100,000 miles, or more, needs to be replaced by a part 3x more expensive? You building an all out race engine?
There are a few reasons you might want to upgrade to billet steel oil pump gears and crankshaft sprocket:
1. You’re going to spend time over 7,000+ rpm
2. You have additional load on the crankshaft snout (supercharger for example)
3. You shift at/on the rev limiter
4. Peace of mind
5. You think you might do any of these in the future
It’s one of the only real “weaknesses” of the Coyote engine, so if you’re at a point where they’re easy to access, might as well do them just in case. If the engine is out of the car, they can be done in about an hour or two. No specialty tools needed. More pics and info in my build thread on this topic.
**EDIT** Forgot to mention, while MMR makes quality parts, there are other manufacturers making billet OPG/CS. I got my OPG from Boundary, this is what they specialize in, parts are even serialized. $200 retail, I paid $167 on Black Friday. Ford Performance actually sells a billet CS for under $40 too. No brainer.

Major tear down to get at the parts. Not a good plan for a street engine that will see occasional 7,000rpm bursts.
