Roadster arrived and I have questions?

So my Roadster was delivered yesterday and I have a couple questions.

    1. The parts list does not show the 17" wheels at all. Not as back ordered or as shipped. Just not there. Is this common or should I call FFR?

    2. How much damage do you expect on the body? I have some scraps and scuffs. No big deal, but I have a Crack about 3" to 4" long on what I would call the rear valance. The small section under the trunk. Maybe not a big deal because the body will need a lot of attention just the driver told me to report it to FFR and they would fix. Also a wave in the rear Quarter panel that is not quite right. Don't think it's a big deal, but the driver told me to report it, so I am not sure if this damage is normal or special to me. Pic of the crack below. Sorry but right now pics are hard to get of the damaged area as I need to get the car on my chassis dolly and roll is out to view.

    3. Certificate of Origin and Serial Number? Are they in one of the boxes? I thought I read somewhere that they should be attached to the parts list I received, but it just says printed at pick up?

    Thanks

If you have any back ordered parts you will not receive your c of o until all items are shipped. Is the crack all the way thru or just in the gel coat. Either way it's fiberglass and super easy to repair.

I took delivery of my coupe on June 18. Make sure to do a complete inventory and report any missing items within 45 days or you could be out of luck per your contract. The missing wheels are a bigger deal so I would report that to FFR right away. All of the other missing stuff you should wait and send one list versus individual items. I ended up with 12 small missing parts and several parts on back order some of which have still not arrived. I did receive my certificates and vin plaque about two weeks ago even through I have not received all parts.
The inventory while not being very exciting is a great way to learn about the parts and you can start to group parts and label the bags with part numbers and a general description so they are easy to find later.
Minor body imperfections are common and as already mentioned easy to fix.
    Enjoy!

Jsf74 the Crack is all the way through. I guess I am not overly worried about it as the body will need a lot of attention anyway. My only concern is that it is on the edge more lIke a rip in the body. Never worked with a glass body before so I was not sure how big a deal it was or if it is common.

The backorder list is pretty long and parts seem odd. Like the list show the Kirkey low backs should be here, but not the seat covers. Weird. I would think they come together. I guess I am just not exactly sure what to expect as I have never done a project like this before. I know back orders are common, just odd to see some of them.

I have quite a few back ordered parts, so I guess the COO will be a while. How do I know my chassis number? I assume it will be in one of the boxes. So I am waiting on my son to get back to start the inventory. Hopefully the process will start tomorrow.

The chassis number is located on the square tube near where the steering wheel pillow bearing will mount in the driver's cockpit. My body also had a crack, mine in the rear driver's wheel well. I asked the body gurus (the Jeffs) and was told it's not uncommon and not a big deal. It will have to be addressed during body work by glassing over it and blending it in. The POL does have some random things on it at times. As was mentioned above, the COO will come as the POL winds down. As to the wheels, this is a really silly question, so don't take it personally: did you order the wheels at the same time as the kit? They are not included with the kit. If you did order them, definitely give them a call. I think they used to be drop-shipped from the manufacturer (if I'm not totally senile); not sure if that is still the case, but it might explain why you didn't get them with your FFR order.

I would not be happy with a crack/tare thru my brand new body. Not sure how it should be handled but a phone call would be the 1st place i would start. It should NOT be delivered with damage like that.

My car did not even have a scratch on it so something definitely happened.

Silver_pilate I did order the wheels at the time I placed the kit order. They had the 50% off Sale so saved a good chunk on them. They told me when I ordered the kit the wheels get drop shipped to FFR and shipped to me with the kit. I know the 17's are on backorder, so not a big deal I was just concerned it does show on parts list unless I missed them.

Jsf74 I was not real happy about the Crack in the body. I am Just not sure what can really be done about it on the FFR side. If this is common then I guess I just fix it with the other bodywork, but if it is uncommon that is a different story.

I would not be happy with the cracks in the body either. Not exactly what you're expecting given the cost of these kits, the anticipation for it to arrive, etc. I've seen the posts stating that it's not unusual. And I agree relatively straightforward to fix. Fiberglass is like that. I just find it hard to believe that FF would load a cracked body into the truck. That sounds like shipping/handling damage. If so, that's on the trucking company not FF. I'll be curious to hear what FF says when you talk to them. Completely moot point, but this is one of the reasons I've personally picked up my kits. I wouldn't have let them load it into my trailer if I saw cracks in the fiberglass.

For your wheels, I'm assuming they are on your final sales order copy. If they're not on the POL (Parts Order List, their version of a backorder list) then I would be asking about that as well. They are very good about making sure that every item on your POL is delivered. But if a part was not in your initial shipment and not on the POL, it needs to be discussed. Drop shipped parts (like Wilwood) don't show on the packing list or POL. But if the wheels are shipping from FF, they should show on your POL.

As already stated, your certificate of origin and nameplate will come later after all the parts are delivered. Speaking of that, hopefully you're spending quality time doing a detailed inventory. Anything missing or incorrect (I've had both) should be reported immediately and they will take care of it.

    Good luck.

Like Sir EdwardB, mine had no issues other than a small scuff on the trunk because it was up against the front of the trailer.
Stewart Transport was the shipping provider and the damage was extremely minimal, literally just a scuff.

Jacob honestly the driver was really good. Seemed to know what he was doing and took a lot of care with everything. My kit was last loaded and first off and the way it was packed at the top of the trailer I can't see it being damaged in shipping. It almost looks like someone tried to lift the car by the body and tore the valance, but I know that did not happen at delivery. I watched the whole time and saw the tear when the body was in the air.

I guess I will bring it up to FFR on Tuesday. Not really sure what they can or will do about it. If it was a small part I may ask for a replacement, but the main body IDK? I mean it needs bodywork anyway so I am not sure how far to push it.I did find another part missing from the POL though. The hood hinges are not on the there anywhere. I did double check the order and it does say the wheels drop ship to FFR and they ship to me.

My body arrived in perfect condition. Yes, contact FFR. I have never been disappointed by FFR's service after the sale. They will take care of you. I don't know how exactly, but I am confident that they will. This is a class organization, fully committed to the customers satisfaction. Go ahead and do your inventory, take lots of photos, enjoy the weekend. Don't worry at all about these minor issues.

FF has always provided great service when I have called and even when I have screwed up they have helped. The cracks zi would not be happy with either and would voice that to them. BO parts are the norm, some have many some have a few it all depends. Last year the windshield took a long time due to I think a production issue but no harm done. Note everything down and inventory 2-3 times, call them with the discrepancies and I am sure they will address.

Don't be timid to demand a fix for the body. You paid a lot of money for the kit. The body should not have a crack all the way through it.
I have certainly had a few issues with wrong or missing parts. For whatever deficiencies they have in packing they more than make up for in customer service.

Just be very careful when you do your inventory. I had about 6 parts that were listed as packed and were no where to be found. Also a couple parts that where not even listed on the pack list so I had no idea I did not have them until I got to that point in the instructions and realized I did not have it. Those were all coyote specific parts that were brand new (engine mount spacers, wildwood Ebrake cable linkage parts, coyote PCM mounting plate) so they may not have been on the pack list because they were not made yet at the time of packing. Hopefully yours will be more accurate.

X2 on the inventory. Take your time and go through each item and bag, it will help you visualize the parts when the time comes to find them. I stole someone's idea of photocopying the parts list and then putting those in sheet protectors and taping to one side of the box it applies to. Makes it easy to find things when they are stacked on the rack.

As other have said, packing is mostly good, but customer service more than makes up for it. This has been especially true on my 289. While based on the MkIV, there are several instances where parts are not interchangeable and I received MkIV parts instead of 289. A little glitchy, but I always end up with the correct parts by the next weekend.

Perhaps compensation for the additional costs for a body shop to repair the damages, rather than having to deal with exchanging the body? I imagine the labor would be only a couple of hours at most. Perhaps a freebie or a discount, on a needed accessory. Need a tonneau cover, or leather steering wheel?

I agree that so far all my dealings with FFR have been top notch, so I guess I will bring up the crack and see how they wish to handle it. I think I bought just about everything they sell except the tonneau and Rear Wilwoods for the IRS, and I have been eyeing both so a credit would be nice. I have already noted a few discrepancies and have yet to open a box, so I will definitely be pouring over the inventory list and all the parts and comparing them to my order confirmation. The discrepancies and backorders are not a surprise and I am sure FFR will make it right without issue.

Cnutting consider your inventory idea stolen. Was out today dong back to school shopping for my kids and picked up a few packs of sheet protectors. Edwardb also suggested adding he backordered parts in the box they were supposed to be in on the sheets as the arrive. Both are great ideas to keep organized on he build moving forward.

Thanks everyone. I guess I will be spending some quality time with my inventory list this week. Hope to have it all done and accounted for by the start of the build class on the 16th.

I'll guess FF5 is aware via this forum...so a solution to your problem is likely being discussed? Just a guess!
