    Question Engine build comments

Hi, I am warming up a relatively fresh '93 5.0 that is in my MKIII.
I was wondering if I could get any input on the combination I have (I am aware that the intake is not the "best flowing", but this is a MUST on my engine).
*Bottom end is all stock. (appx. 10,000 miles)
    New parts as follows:
*AFR 1472 heads w/ Ford Racing 1.6 rollers
    *Comp Cams double roller chain
*Ford Racing M-6500-R302H lifters/ Comp Cams 7826-16 push rods (correct length/ verified)
    *Anderson Racing N41 cam
*Ford Racing 24# injectors ( bought Walbro 190LPH fuel pump too)
    *PRO-M 75MM MAF
    *BBK 70MM throttle body
*Ford Racing '93 Cobra upper and lower intake

    Car has 3.73 gears

I have the original computer out of the '93 Mustang that my engine originally came from in the car. (5.0 H/O & 5-speed)

I am in the process of putting this together and would appreciate insights any of the Forum members might have for me on this.
    Thanks for reading my post!

    James

Nice street package and it will run well. The only change I would make is use an earlier computer like the A9L and have a chip cut for it.

Hello Gordon, thanks for your input.
This is my first fuel-injected SBF I have built, previous engines were 289's.
Do you have any recommendations regarding the computer and the modifications?
I apologize for my lack of knowledge in this area...definitely a green-horn when it comes to computer-controlled engines.
I do not know if this is something that can be ordered by providing a vendor with just engine component data, or if it needs to go to a shop for tuning.
I have a couple of Ford engine performance soft-cover books, but there is no real detail with the computers.
Thanks again for your time here!

I have almost the exact combination in my 2001 Miata, only difference is I have a comp cam in mine. It is a great street combo. One suggetion - get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

3.73 rear end, or is that supposed to read 2.73?

With a 3.73 ratio, your car will pull like crazy with just what you have. 1st gear will be pretty short, and your fuel mileage will take a hit, but it will go..

You could get a little better breathing from the intake if you port and port match to your setup (at the TB, intake ports, and exhaust ports). You didn't mention headers but those would round out your combo. Make sure your throttle body is calibrated for your 24 lb injectors. Getting an earlier computer would be a little better. If you get a piggy back chip to soup up the stock one you should be careful. The Bama chips are a waste of time in my opinion. If you get a chip added to the service port and have it dino tuned it will cost $500 to $800 plus unless you know someone who will do it for less. You might want to consider a tunable computer. Check out Stinger Performance for a ECU that will plug into your harness and is very tunable. It sounds like you have a really nice setup. You should have fun!

    Good luck,

    WEK.

Hello AC Bill, 3.73's is correct. I had new Yukon chrome moly axels installed with the rebuild on the rear end and the speedo gear changed to accommodate the new ratio. It used to have 3.25's and the car just begged for speeding tickets! It is much more friendly for general cruising with new gears. It accelerates with authority now. Thanks for your comments! James

Hello skullandbones, I am running the 4 into 4 headers. I purchased a calibrated PRO-M 75MM MAF, to work with new 24lb. Ford Racing injectors and a BBK 70MM throttle body. I also purchased a 190lph Walbro fuel pump which has not yet been installed. I was aware that there are several better flowing intakes, but I really wanted to go with the "Cobra" theme. Thank you very much for your input on the chips!!! This is my first computer-controlled engine build....old-school carb guy for the most part. I will definitely look into your recommendation on the Stinger! Thanks again! James
