First Build - Start Up Questions

Hi,

My name is Colin and my dad and I are looking to build a FFR roadster. We have restored other Mustangs and have always wanted to complete one of these builds. We are currently in the process of locating a donor car for the build, and will hopefully be ordering our kit in the near future. However, I am 6’ 3” and am not sure if I will be able to fit into the final product and have a comfortable drive. Is there any advice out there on whether or not this is an issue?

It's obvious you haven't been on the forum as this is one of the most frequently addressed issues (and re-addressed) I've seen in the last year. You barely qualify as a wookie. There are 6 ft 5 inch guys who fit and some near 300 lbs. So you are a "shoe in". The crazy thing is that people that size actually do fit! I would think that as cozy as I am in mine at 6 ft and 215 that other larger guys would have trouble but it seems there is a lot more space available to use if you do the right mods. I just stopped when I was able to fit. When I get in, it's like putting on a perfectly fitted glove. The only deficit I had was too much room for my left foot going forward so I added a "dead pedal" to give me stability when going into curves. Go ahead and make the order because you will fit!!!!!!

Search here and on the other forum. It will take some work but you can make yourself fit just fine.. One hint, forget any seat other than a Kirkey or similar aluminum seat. You just can't afford to lose 3 inches of legroom because the seat back is 3 inches thick.

Here's a good thread from a guy who was a lot taller than you. It is an MK3 though...not sure how different the footboxes are in the MK4.

I currently own the car, so if you're anywhere near Greensboro, NC, I'd be glad to show it to you in person. I changed the seats, so it's not as much of a 'tall guy' car any longer...but the footbox feels substantially larger than a typical FFR.
