Two 818's delivered in Calgary Friday

Yay! After two years of waiting, I finally took delivery of kit # 118 in Calgary yesterday! The other one was delivered on Thursday to a gentleman I met just a week ago. It will be great to have another 818 builder to work with locally.

Yep, I am the 'other' Calgary 818 builder. I was on the old FFCars forum a few years back when I built my Mk III. I am a few months away from starting as I need to finish my garage first, but here are some pics of the unloading.

Build thread? I don't think so. I don't want the whole world to see all the mistakes I'm going to make! I'll leave the build threads to those with real skills!

Still, very exciting and I'm learning a lot from the great folks on the forum. It is such an excellent resource.

I don't know about that. I'm a noob, and I say embrace it. A lot of my thread is about the stuff I did/do wrong or learned. And I think that has value to some people. Yours would as well. Do what you want, just remember, EVERYONE was a noob at some point...

well, the build thread is nice so people can point out stuff that you are doing wrong and help, as long as they are not *******s about it. If you are a Triathlete like your signature says, people can just shut up if they wanna be *****. Working on car is easy and open to anybody compared to doing triathlons!!

Congrats, Dave. For the build and your build thread, do it your way. I don't have a build thread but post things I've done that might be helpful to others by topic. Someone looking for how to install something can then look in the topic heading rather than scroll through many build threads to find stuff. For instance, the best info about mounting the shifter is in the build thread of Longislandwrx, not the Engine/Trans heading. I enjoy following others' builds but look for info, and contribute info, by topic. Like our cars, we each have our own path.

I went out to see Steve's 'Garage' a couple of weeks ago. I now have SERIOUS garage envy! I mean really - a one bedroom bungalow with an 8 car garage!! Sounds like a dream to me!!

P.S.: he needs an 8 car garage due to an excess of toys!

For her 40th birthday I got her a passenger ride in an F1 car at COTA in Texas, and she made me do it as well...

My 9 year old son is keen to help build this 818 too, so it will be a fun project for the two of us to share! He even had the honor of installing the first part on the frame. Plus, when I really screw up, I can blame it on the inexperienced 9 year old! Honestly though, I am learning a great deal from everyone on the forum! I will certainly post pictures and progress when I can, but I may choose to do that through proper topical threads rather than my own build thread.

Congrats on the new 818, I would start a build log its nice to go back and see the progress. Good for family and friends to keep in touch and see your build. Weebly has good platform and very easy to use for your build site.

I have been watching this form because after the GTM is completed I will be looking at building one of these.

Both Steve and I used Al Biex at cdncobraguy@gmail.com (1-866-853-5835) to do our imports for us. Al has worked with FFR many times in the past, and has the process running very smoothly. Al handled the order, exchange, shipping, border issues, and delivery to a local freight depot for us both in Calgary. Much easier than attempting to do it ourselves. If you plan to import it yourself, be sure to get the required documentation from FFR and from the Canadian Border Services as early as possible so that you can get your documentation completed and submitted early. The Canadian Dept of Transport will take at least a month to process your request to import, so there is a lot of waiting involved. The best advice I can offer right now is to start on the donor tear-down and cleanup months in advance. I had all of my donor parts stripped, cleaned, and painted before the kit arrived, which freed up tons of work space in the garage. Otherwise you may end up tight for working space!
