Question on 4.6 Oil Pan Repalcement on Mk IV

I am using a 4.6 donor from a 2001 Mustang Cobra on my Mk IV. There is a requirement to replace the stock oil pan with a shallow pan such as the Canton 15-736 rear sump. I will be using an under car exhaust, so my question is "will the 2 1/4" to 2 1/2" of lowered ground clearance mitigate the need for the low profile pan?"

The oem pan on a 4.6l mod motor will hang 1.75" below the 4" frame on the mk4. The aftermarket shallow pans will bring this right too or less than 1/2" below the frame.

We went with a Champs pan from North Race Cars. http://www.northracecars.com/oilpan.html

And, you may want to rethink the undercar exhaust, as ride height is normally adjusted to 4.5" from ground to bottom of frame, with no one or gear in the car. Some even set their ride height as low as 4" unloaded.

With 2.25" or 2.5" OD exhaust under the frame, you have 1.5" to ground. This is very, very low for the street; and you will scrape on almost every speed bump and driveway entrance (gas stations, residential driveways, etc) you come across. The lowrider community usually shoots for enough clearance to roll a spray paint can (2.5" diameter) under the car.

I would also guess that header clearance trying to run down and out the back will be very tight as well, especially on the driver's footbox side.

    Just my 2 cents...

That's a good price for the new pan since it is all included. Here's what I plan to do for the under exhaust. www.ffcars.com/FAQ/undercarexhaust.html

    That exhaust looks nice!

And, it makes more sense going outside of the frame rails. I've seen some threads that took it down inside the frame and even through the rear cross tube using 'sleeves' through the 4" tubing.

You should start a Build Thread! I'll definitely look forward to seeing your modifications and progress. I feel that everyone should fabricate / modify at least one thing to make their car unique.
