Retrofitting wipers

I'm seriously considering buying a 2002 roadster (MK II?) but I miss the idea of no wipers. Has anybody retrofitted them on to a completed car? I have never done any body work so I have no idea what I would be getting into. The car I'm looking at has a top notch paint job that I would hate to ruin.

No problem at all. I installed them on my MKII (2004, FFR$5004) after the car was painted. Just follow the instructions here that come with the wiper kit: http://www.factoryfive.com/wp-conten..._ROADSTER_.pdf. Had this handy from a similar post on the other forum.

Use painters tape to mask off the cowling before marking and drilling.

You can also get washers from one of the forum vendors.

Don't bother..................it rains on the inside of the windshield too. rainex both sides of the windshield and you'll be fine.

The only real challenge with installing the wipers would be securing the motor to the firewall. Then you'd have to do some really precise measurements to ensure that you drill the holes exactly the right size and exactly where you want them, the first time. Wipers make these cars look complete. Go for it. Factory five provides pretty good directions on how to do the install.

If your state doesn't require them, don't waste your money and the cussing installing them. RainEx works better than the wipers do. Don't forget the inside, as well.

does the kit provide the jig as shown in the manual for drilling?

One thing to note is that the left right position is not super critical. You are going to be cutting and flaring the tubing that goes between the wheelboxes and the motor yourself. So you just make it whatever length is needed to fit after you have them mounted.
