You will be amazed at what you can work around. I built my MK4 in a two-car garage and suspended the body from the ceiling. A year ago, I moved from my huge dream shop which would have been awesome to build my upcoming Type 65, and now I have a detached 12X30 shop for the build. My three-car garage is full and my MK4 will have to be stored in my covered trailer during the build. Where there is a will, there is a way...

The driveway is about 80 feet. I do have to say that the crushed stone is very solid. They packed it down well. You can't kick it loose and turning the car on it to get it into the garage does not dig in. Having a couple of sheets of ply is probably a good idea. I guess only time will tell.Quote:

RE: Rolling on crushed stone…I have 3 bucks plus a chassis dolly. All are on casters with 8 or 12 inch pneumatic tires.

I found that hard wheel casters dug in but the pneumatic don’t. Just something to keep in mind if you have problems.

The shop lights are only $17.99 when you buy three or more. They only draw 1.1 amps. I wasn't sure how many I would need figuring at 1.1 amps if I needed 4 per wall the amp draw would still be less than a twenty amp circuit. They are plug in so only an outlet needed. I plugged one in to see what kind of light they gave off. The box says 5000 Lumen and they are right. One lit up the whole garage. I am now planning on 2 on opposing walls for a total of 4. Depending on the shadows I may add an additional one on the opposite walls.

I have never had a well setup working garage before even though I have always wanted one. I am pleased that this is beginning to become one.
Lighting and tools.... Oh yeah. My garage may be cramped, but I have tools and no shadows, anywhere. :D

Mentally dealing with the fact you have cancer is a *****. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Dealing with associated issues like the surprised cost I mentioned a few posts back is even worse. That was a tough weekend but it did all work out in the end.
Well I have a new chapter in the saga. Cancer medications are a wonder of science now days. (To bad they price them in such a way you need a rich uncle to be able to afford them!!) The meds I'm on are doing a great job of keeping the cancer at bay for now. It is killing the cancerous white blood cells as fast as they are being generated. But along with that they are also lowering my IGG levels. For those of us who aren't doctors I will keep this a simple as I can. You IGG level is an indication of your ability to fight an infection. The normal IGG level is between 600 and 1600. Mine is 300. My doctor suggested an infusion of IGG to raise my IGG level into the safer range. Given the fast rising infection rates here in NY I whole heartly agreed. The doctor contacted the insurance company to get the approval and they denied the treatment! They said they needed a history of infections before approving the treatment! Blew my mind. I told my doctor if I get an infection that history will be very short! We are trying to protect against infection and the insurance is saying no we need to see infections before allowing it. My next question was how many times do I have to stare death in the face and win to get the treatment? Once? Twice? 5 times? 10 times? It is truly asinine. I went to my company and they are trying to work with the insurance company. No idea what that outcome will be. Thru my union we have a very good disability program. It's 100% pay for up to 6 months. If the insurance company does not approve I will have my doctor put me on disability and I will sit home and get paid until my retirement date of May 1st. I was out for 6 months earlier this year when things were off the charts. (Not a bad gig actually) You can't make this stuff up!

I got my frame on my dolly today. I love it. I got some 8" polyurethane wheels and I can move it around wit one finger. Getting ready to do some welding.
You have to love it when stuff starts coming together.

The garage floor is concrete but the drive is crushed stone. Being able to swing it around in the garage would be nice. Been mulling over the idea of mounting the jack stands on wheeled bases.Quote:

The opposite wall will have the same setup with one possibly two more outlets on the back wall. The panel board has not be wired to the main panel in the house yet. The wires have been run and are just waiting to be hooked up.

Saga follow-up
Good news/Bad news.
Bad news: My doctor just called. Because my insurance company won't let him give me an infusion and because the infection rate is climbing he is going to put me back on short term disability.
Good news: Due to being union we have a great disability program. 100% pay for a maximum of 6 months. I am retiring on May 1st so that's it folks!! Getting paid to sit here and continue to prepare for my delivery! Love it!
Saga follow-up part 2
Went into work this morning. Delivered my paperwork for my retirement on May 1st. Also notified HR and my manager/team that I was being put back on disability until further notice. Was home by noon. Infection rate locally is over 15%. In the past 7 days eleven employees have tested positive. One on my team! Being put back on disability is the right move. Going to work every day was getting to dangerous. Will be using all of this stay at home time to continue to get everything ready for my build when it's delivered!
Sounds like you might have dodged a bullet. Welcome to the world of retirees. It's a lot of fun! :)

Finished planned electrical today. I'm not an electrician but after wiring everything from the main panel in the house to the panel in the garage and to all of the outlets and switch every thing worked and no sparks!!
At this point I have 4 circuits. One 15 amp circuit for the LED lights. Each light takes 1.1 amps. I have 6 lights on the circuit all of which are controlled by the light switch at the door. I decided to add the two additional lights on the north wall for two reasons. First they are not that expensive and second the more light the better. (especially at my age!) I have two 20 amp circuits. One on the east wall and one on the west wall. Each circuit has 4 outlets evenly spaced along the wall. The last circuit is a 15 amp circuit that I wired to an outlet right next to the panel box. (No real plans for that ... just because I guess) I have future plans to add an additional circuit to the north wall for my future compressor and an additional circuit if I add a lift.

The house I own was built in 1923. I think I have more outlets in the garage than I do in the house!! Lucky if there is one outlet per room.
The garage is now ready and waiting. I will use my time now to purchase more needed tools (love that) and specialty items that I am planning on using. Hopefully by ordering ahead of time I can have the items here when I need them and not have to wait by ordering later.
